Columbus map updates

Featured Replies

Hi,

Not been on for a long time. Got a vrs 15 plate my16 with columbus/ canton.

Car is due second service on 2nd march. Would skoda update maps/ firmware on its service? I haven't done any updates myself since new. It hasn't even got station artwork on the DAB!!:o:blush: Cheers

Maps you update yourself via the Skoda update portal: http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-gb

Dealer might update the firmware if you're having issues, otherwise it's unlikely they will. If your Columbus is MIB1 you can update the firmware yourself, there's a recent thread about updating Columbus with a link to 0411 version.

A dealer will update the map data if you ask them but it is unlikely it will be for free.

They will charge you the time to download the maps & install them which can be several hours (its 45mins just to install).

It is much better to do this yourself, although you have to have the internet connection for a 20Gb download & the time to unzip & copy to the Columbus.

For a firmware update, the only official way to do this via the dealer but usually with software updates you have to demonstrate to them you are having an issue for which they can find a software fix.

There are some links on here for firmware updates which you can do yourself, unofficially of course.

There are several users who have done this several times so it would seem the risk is minimal.

I have recently had my software updated from 0392 to 0411 by the dealer & I can say that the improvements in audio quality (reducing the compression from the headunit) are quite noticable & well worth it.
