1,4 tsi idle noise

Featured Replies

Hi, im having a noise from my engine and i cant figure out where it comes from, the dealer say its normal but i Think its a standard answer. The noise is most noticeable when the engine is cold, and sounds an hard metallic rattle. When i rev the engine it completely disaapears when i let off the throttle, so i think i might have something to do with the fuel system. Its an ea211 engine, so no camchain, it has 47.000 km ok the clock. Have anyone here got similar issue?

i have posted a youtube link below so you can hear the sound.

It is normal.

The injection system sounds like a bag of nails.

That was my first thought before watching the video. Does seem really loud though so I'm now not convinced.

Mine is the quietest engine I've ever had. When idling at traffic lights I often think the engine has stopped (and, no, I do NOT use stop/start!!!)

+1 for me, I DO use stop / start but the only way I can tell if the engine has actually shut down is by glancing at the rev counter.

Totally agree that it is the quietest 4 pot I have ever had, especially from inside the car and not bad from outside but lifting the bonnet is another story. Surprising really since it does not even have padding under the bonnet like the diesels.

The old 1.9pd was not a quiet engine by any stretch of the imagination.

To the OP: To my ears the sound is definitely the injectors and each seems to be creating the same volume, so it is not as if only one is playing up.

You say it is louder than your neighbour's identical car, with, I presume identical engine?

Has yours always been like that or has it recently got worse?

I can also confirm that it's nice and quiet inside the car, but at idle it can sound like a bag of nails from outside, especially with the bonnet up. It's just the way it is I'm afraid.

I Think it might be the fuel pump

The 1.8 doesnt sound good while idling either. At least not when standing in front it....

It does sound like normal injector tick to me, retro fit an engine cover, you know, the bit that Skoda should have fitted in the first place to these cars.

Do you know if they solved the fuelpump camfollower problem om these new engines?

Since I have never even seen a mention of a fuel pump problem for this 1.4tsi in the near 3 years I have been on this forum, I'll take a wild punt and say there is no fuel pump problem. So I am not quite sure which of 'yes' or 'no' is the right answer to the question as it is worded? :)
