... I heard that the OEM P Zero's are different that what you would get if you bought them from a tyre shop? Is this right?

Personally I think this is sometimes true. Often the initial set will wear out quicker than the replacement using the exact same tyre.

When the OEM Potenza's are done one mine I will most likely be going for a set of Sava Intesa UHP 2's, I have had Sava's on previous cars, and always felt sure footed in most conditions, they are also very quiet and have MFS rim protection, C for economy, A for wet grip, and A for road noise @67db. £62.17ea  from tyre leader excluding fitting (£12-£15) at the moment I almost wish I was ready to buy them now. https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/sava/intensa-uhp-2/225-40-r18-92y-572844

For me it'll either be Goodyear Asymmetric 3 or Vredestein Ultrac VortiR next to get rid of these godforesaken Pirellis which are completely useless.

Vorti r are a soft compound track tyre are they not ?? The standard vorti are the normal road tyre

Oh these nokian zlines are blooming tasty. Fitted them today to the good lady wife's Fabia vrs  and already even in the wet they are proper grippy. Worth a look guys

Not sure, but you're probably right as I recall seeing GTR owners raving about them.

The standard vortis are brill. Have them in a 235 on the octy will certainly buy again

I used Avon ZZ3 on my old Avensis, tried ZZ5's on Vrs and would not change.  am high mileage 25k pa, Avons doing between 27-30k. Quiet, till nearly worn out, good in the wet, brilliant in the dry.

I have had 3 Vrs Octavias. My current one being a 14 plate Vrs TDi DSG hatch with chip express tuning box fitted. I have trialed numerous makes of tyres over the years and I found that the best by far are the Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric for both wet and dry grip. They also have a decent rim protector which is ideal for the 19" diamond cut rims. I have a mixture of the Goodyear's and Michelin PS3's at the moment but only because the PS3's were really cheap on offer. I will be replacing them with Goodyear asymmetric 3's when the winter wheels come off. I note you have used Camskill. Have you also tries tyreleaders. They can have really good offers and I have used them for all my tyres in the last year or so including for my wife's Fabia Vrs Tsi DSG.

Heya guys, interesting thread - I always like reading about tyre choices, because it is such a subjective subject too sometimes!

If anyone's interested, have a read of a thread I started in the Mk. 1 forum a while back - it gives my thoughts on a tyre brand that hasn't as yet been mentioned on this thread...

What about noise IYO? My Pirellis are awful on the rough top NZ tarmac and I am looking to ensure the next set are quieter...most do say the F1s meet that criteria too.

The Goodyear's are quiet on the roads and the grip is great too. The wear depends on how you drive, but at the end of the day your tyres are the only thing that keep you on the road. I have just retired from the police and all the cars were fitted with Goodyear tyres. You could say that I have had the opportunity to test them to their full potential in all conditions and at speeds that normally you couldn't drive! That is why I fit Goodyear tyres.
