i have a leak in the same place when bleeding my brakes with a pressure bleeder... im thinking it could be a leak up near the master cylinder which is dripping down and running down the chassis rails. going to take it to bits and have a look soon, my brakes have felt a bit off for a while so could be this

Yep, there's a drain hole in the chassis leg just below the master cylinder, and anything (usually just rainwater) that goes down there emerges where your red ring is.  I've got a photo somewhere, hang on.

Not the clearest pic ever, but just where the red arrow is pointing is a hole that goes into that box section.

Not sure TBH, never done one. So no-one's done any work in that area recently?

no i was bleeding it, and it erupted from the red drainage hole(pic)

The simplest explanation is that spillage occurred during the topping up of the reservoir (for both of you). Eesibleed seal at the point it connects to reservoir or simply pouring inaccurately if not using a pressure bleeder.

I checked the seal of the bleeder and it was intact, the top of the reservoir was dry when I removed it so I think the leak is coming from somewhere else. My brakes are also pretty poor compared to other cars I drive so I think I do have a proper leak :/

My fluid has dropped over the last 2 months also, and brakes where not feeling great thats why i was bleeding. I think the master needs replacing. Its serverd its job for 14years and 152k miles i cant complain.
