Hello, can you advise me please:

Can I link Google maps from my mobile phone onto my 2016 Skoda Fabria Monte Carlo dashboard screen, using Blue tooth? Is so, how do I install it? If not, what are my options?

Hope you can help,

Regards, Robert.

You can do it via android auto if that's what you mean but that requires a USB lead plugged into the USB socket

Not sure if Apple car play has native Google map support or if you are forced to used apples maps (android user myself )

This instructions won't appear on maxi dot but it will appear as per your mobile on the infotainment screen and sound will come out of your vehicle speakers

Hello malcster, thank you very much for your reply, much appreciated. My android phone is a Motorola Moto 3rd Gen, which is pre-loaded with Google software, including the Google Maps. It sounds like I need to connect a usb cable from my phone to the USB socket in the car. I received my 2016 Skoda Fabria yesterday from the Skoda dealer, so I have a lot to learn!

Thanks again. Robert.

One thing you can learn from now it's a Fabia not a Fabria !!

Yes you will probably need to download android auto from the play store first (make sure you get the official one )

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.projection.gearhead

Also connection needs to be when vehicle is stationary

If you need any more help let me know

I have exactly the same phone Robert, and it works really well with my Fabia.

I use giffgaff as its the cheapest for using data in my experience (Amazon,Spotify,Google music, maps etc.).

As Malcster said if you have any problems come back and tell us.

Top tip with maps is you can download large sections  the map to the phone via your home WiFi that way you are only updating live traffic info as you are driving

I currently have nearly all of England that updates via WiFi once a month automatically or manually whenever you want (I use my tablet for navigation In our work truck

Music you can download to the device if you don't have a massive data allowance

Hello RickW and Malcster,

Thank you both so much for your messages; great news for me that RickW has the same car & phone as myself., and the downloading info will be great when I get set up.

I have only had my 2016 Skode Fabria Monte Carlo a few days, it is a brilliant car. I am now trying to get my head around setting it up!

The manual shows that I need a Skode SD card for the GPS, but that seems unnecessary as I already have data & maps included in my 3 mobile phone contract.

The Skoda Dealer set up my phone to make & receive calls, that's fine. I have now connected the phone into the car USB socket using a standard phone charging cable. I am now trying to find out were I go from here. I pressed menu but I am lost!.

Any help would be much appreciated.

All the very best to you both,

Robert.

Make sure you get the SD from the dealer as these are pricey should you need one further down the line or your phone gives up mid journey

Have you downloaded android auto yet ??

Once you have set the app up on your phone while plugged in its pretty straight fwd

either click on the icon on your phone or in the car press menu then I think (from memory ) smartlink a menu appears offering apple car play for iOS devices or android auto

Click android auto it will say connecting to device then your Google now screen should appear giving the weather and time to home if not at home or time to work if you are at home

But seriously though get the SD card it's yours after all

Hello Malcster'

Thanks for your message, I phoned the Dealer and told him what you said. He said that you were right, but said that my car will not take that SD card, the later model uses a (I think he said) smart-link. He has arrange an appointment with me for later this week to sort it out.

You have really helped me as I shall raise the SD question with him again. My car is A Skoda Monte Carlo, registered July 2016. It was a demonstation car with 3500 miles on the clock. It's a great car and I am very pleased with it.

Thanks Malcster.

Robert.

You have the nav button on your stereo ??

If you have then you should have Amundsen unit and that does require a SD card

Tidied thread up

Hello Malcster & Damo,

Thanks you for your messages.  Malcster: I shall check for the stero nav button in the car. This information is appreciate as it will help me when I meet the dealer. I will let you know how it goes, but it may be the end of next week. Damo: Thanks for tidying up this thread.

Thanks again, Robert

Hello Malcster & Damo,

I checked the Dashboard display on the car, it does not have a NAV button. On the left side of the display there are four buttons: Radio, Media, Phone & TP. On the right the four buttons are Setup, Sound, Car, Menu. Below the display is AUX, USB & 12v dc socket.

I am meeting the Dealer on 16 March to have a Skoda code entered for the Cruise Control that was fitted as part of the deal. The Dealer has agreed to setup 'Smart-Link' and connect it to my mobile phone. So fingers crossed, it should display my mapping on the cars display.

Thanks again for all your help.

Robert.

Right so the SD card is off the table now as you don't have factory navigation not the end of the world but a nice addition

Have you downloaded the android auto app to your phone ???

I can talk you through the process of connectting with pictures if that helps

Yes please, that would be great. I will give it a try tomorrow,

Robert

OK so here goes it's pretty straight forward

Used my wife's phone to plug in while mine took the pictures (which explains the crap music)

Connect to car with USB car should be stationary allow it to connect for the first time accept the disclaimer etc

Afterwards this screen should appear on your device

Now you can either launch from your device or via this way
