I have searched a few threads on here that discussed this (there was some confusion when the FL was released). It seems the curtain airbags changed deployment from each pillar a,b,c to the headlining with just a single airbag badge on each a pillar. My car has the badge on each a pillar.

 

So my car has these markers on the a pillar, plus the airbag tag on each of the seat side bolsters (side airbags) plus the usual marking on the steering wheel / dash for passenger.

 

However, on a full VCDS scan only 4 airbag sub systems are returned - see below.  I would of thought 6 - IF it actually has curtain airbags..

 

Does this mean that i) the seat bolster located side airbags are not fitted when curtain air bags are? or ii) The seat bolster and curtain airbags are on the same sub system? or iii) the car doesn't have curtain airbags and the badge on the a pillar is a mistake?

I'm thinking someone must know if the curtain airbags are reported as a separate sub system in VCDS when side airbags are fitted?

My FL only shows 2 subsystems, yours shows 4 I expect two of them are the curtain airbags.

 

I changed my steering wheel and airbag with no changes to the serial numbers so I believe that the drivers and front passenger airbag aren't reported, only the side and curtain airbags (where fitted).

Ok, right thanks. Or maybe the subsystem serial is a generated or stored number relates to both the side and front airbag combined, not a serial number of a specific unit itself?  Just checked my mk5 golf scan (now sold), I forgot I had one saved. That was supposed to have curtain airbags and that only shows 4 sub systems as well.......
