Beware the Aldi Airfresheners...

Featured Replies

My daughter takes better care of her beloved Skoda than she does herself! After paying a fortune on a full professional valet she thought she would ice the cake by perfuming the inner sanctum by sticking a air freshener inside.

After a few weeks there was a weird smell..I kept telling her it was coming from the air freshener which was stuck on the front dash. when she took it off all the plastic on the front had blistered, she has just phoned Aldi who told her it happened before! and to get two quotes and they would re-imburse her.. It was stuck on a bit near the front I will have to find out which bit! The container was not punctured, in fact I think it glass, it must have been the fumes acting like paintstripper. It reminded me of the old days when decorators used a blow torch on paintwork raised bubbly!

Just thought I would tell you in case any one else has these fresheners in the cars!....

Jan...:-)

Air fresheners can be lethal.

We had (what seemed like) a fragranced lump of wood, shaped like an oversized acorn that we got from Halfords to hang in the Beetle over the winter.

We hung it on the glove box handle, where it hung a small distance from 35 yr old paint work, covered the car up and left it for 3 months.

We were more than a little annoyed when we found the fumes had acted as paint stripper and the glove box door was down to bare metal in one point and there was a damage mark about 4" long.

Halfords kindly paid for the repair and I've since noticed there is a warning about the paint stripping effects on their packaging.

Or, could be interpreted like: anyone got any problems with the dash - get an Aldi air freshner! :)

I'm not one for air freshners, can't stand most of the smells.

Crikey Goochie, it just proves how powerful these chemicals which people have in their cars and homes are...I always remember the Vapona ' hang in the kitchen' fly killer..the only warning they gave was not to put in a small room ( yeah most kitchens are massive!)

then months after that they were linked with birth defects...

To be honest, I dont know why she wants a flipping freshener any way, she does not smoke, no one is allowed to eat a crisp in there, so what smell could there be anyway!

I am now on a mission...all and sundry is going to hear about these ***** air fresh thingymajigs!:)

As I've said before, whenever I get in a taxi with an airfreshener, it's always "Can I open the window?" Given they don't allow smoking - so that's not an issue, then why, oh why?

Maybe they have oxygen masks that drop down from the roof  Must check that out next time ...
