I think every owner will say good buy to Skoda as soon as they can afford more expensive car. But being 6.6 tall Octavia and Superb are awesome cars and have one thing many cars lack. Space for tall people, front and back seats! And plus 5. door massive booth!

Think many car brands should work on there models and bring up that space for 6.6 tall people.

Wrong assumption sory, maybe for you, but certainly this is not true for everyone.

I could afford a new BMW, Audi, Merc, already, but I wouldn't say goodbye to mine for one of those as I can't stand the image/expectations that come with them.

(I'd rather pay money off the mortgage, personally and save the cash).

Life doesn't always have to be about money

If I was feeling frivolous I'd have a Jaguar F though.

Sympathies about the body work pain, I can understand the annoyance this has caused and I'm probably be thinking the same knowing that

The original problem may have been Skoda but perhaps would have been a lot easier if the paintwork "specialist" had fixed it right first time.

Mind you it never does stop raining in Scotland so what a place to have a paint repair :D

I wonder if my father would have any input on this, after all he is chemical engineer, ex 3m abrasives specialist / european sales expert for paint finish at car plants ( been retired over a decade though).

I'm sure he has some background as obviously some part of the process was not correct for it to keep bubbling, possibly to do with how the paint is primed/keyed to what is plastics not metal.

Vrs Ant the point we're making is the Octavia is getting pricey and you can actually get a so called prestige brand for the same money, especially if you look at ex demos pre-reg models etc.

All brands of cars have stereo types of the type of owner, but TBH who cares if you like the car.

The Jag XE is a lovely car and can be had for VRs money. Just a shame it's so small inside especially the back seats.

As to paying off mortgages early, what's the point let it run its course. Don't make yourself poor. You house value is increasing enough over the term to make the interest paid worth it.

Sorry I don't prescribe to un-level comparisons,

you can claim money is close, but don't say "same" when its just not true.

If you have to be looking at ex demos etc, then the price isn't the same.

If you have to be looking at base spec models the comparison isn't the same.

If you have to be looking at not new, then its not new

If you are just trying to fiddle about to get similar price as the Octavia from new, so the prices, are not the same.

GTI from 27495

Audi from 27015

vRS from 24885

I agree though there is not much in it, and it would definitely be worthwhile if Skoda made more gap between prices.

Particularly when they have been sidelined as the budget brand by the master race but I wonder if secretly they don't really want Skoda to be as successful as they can be and better to try and shift their higher profit line cars ? That may not be Skoda fault and answer lying higher up somewhere on that.

Careful.  I've been slated for daring to use the word "fanboys".
