Coolant level 1.9 tdi 2005 Octy

Featured Replies

Hi all

Need some help radiator changed on the car. Some G13 put in but I don't think there was enough maybe 1lt.

How much do I need really as I will buy another 1.5lt bottle/a today?

What is the capacity of the cooling system and would all of the coolant have been lost when the radiator was swapped?

Where can I drain some excess liquid from on the circuit, bottom of radiator have a drain plug ?

Thanks in advance

Fill in here, while engine is running and wait until the coolant level is between the marks "Max" and "Min"  shown at the side...when I remember right~ 8 Litres in total

Thanks but I think I need to drain some liquid out. Before topping up I have 3ltres of G13 to put back in. Bottle says 2parts/g12 to 3 parts water ratio for minus 24.

Where can I drain the majority of the old stuff out from easily ?

Looking at 2 old invoices only paid for 2x 1.5 litre bottles of g12 on a cambelt changes. So I have enough g13 then.

I managed to follow the Haynes instructions and remove both the top and bottom hoses on the rad.

Only about 2lt of liquid removed. Plus some spilled where it missed the bucket.

Did some hose squeezing and a little more came out.

Reconnected the lot and refilled with neat g13. Nearly got all the 3lt I had bought about 300ml left.

To achieve the above ran at fast idle for 3 mins and squeezed the hoses before hand after filling and topped to full.  Level never changed after that and idling for 30plus minutes until the bottom hose went hot. Went on a 60 miles return trip checking in between after being sat for 1 hour. No change in level.

I did experience one issue the boost hose I removed from the intercooler came loose at connector and the car struggled to pick up power and bellowed out smoke. I returned home and corrected that as I was around the corner.

No over heating temperature always at 90 on the dash.

Warm air comes out of the vents.

Hopefully thats it for that task
