Shuting off EGR on Yeti

Hi everybody,

 

I am having a bit of problems with my Yeti. It seems that EGR valve is dead.

I had a warning light come up while driving (3x) and at the Škoda service they said that it was EGR system reporting a error and that it needs to be replaced (whole EGR system - valve, cooler, etc.). Repair is expensive since (in a way) I get nothing from it.

 

So I went to check for another solution, and I think I have found it, so I am asking for your advice.

I am thinking about blanking of EGR and doing a remap (110hp to 145hp) at tunning shop in my country (SM Chip tunning).

 

They offer me a good deal, a remap and EGR problems resolving for price that is 30% cheaper then just replacing EGR at Škoda. So for the almost the same money I get more.

 

Thing that bugs me is that EGR fault. They said, and I quote: "We can permanently shut off EGR." Now I read that there are more then one way to deal with EGR (or shut it off), software fix, removing, some put metal plates etc. But the outcome is the warning lights. I want to fix this and never again have a EGR warning light or something like that. What do the mean when they say shut it off?

 

So my question is, what is the best way to "shut off" EGR so it does not make any problems later or warning lights flashing? I don't what to pay for all of this at tunning company and still have limp modes on or warning lights flashing.

 

Also, I read somewhere that tunning compaines do not "fix" EGR when it's already broken (or something like that). Like they can't "shut it off" if the EGR is faulty, only when it's ok. Is that true?

 

Prioritety is resolving EGR fault.

Sorry Nanak didn't read all of your post,so under 70.000 miles and egr may have failed ,if it is definitely the EGR I'd get it blanked off.

Can't just blank off the egr on the Yeti, has to be removed from the software the same time.

if you just blank off, within a few miles you'll be in limp mode with a warning light on the dash..

My 2.0 tdi 110bhp has done 120,000 miles and so far no problems with the egr.. But eventually it will play up along with that bloody dpf..

By blanked off do you mean putting metal on valve hole or ...?

Could it be done the other way around, just software fix, no touching egr?

Yap, the DPF and EGR are seriously making me decide for petrol engine next time.

Blanking off egr at manifold is a five minute job, no need to remove egr (****** of a job). 

From what I understand both must be done at the same time.

last diesel for me as well, they have become so complicated, and expensive to fix..

Blanking plates are available on Ebay complete with gaskets, can be blanked at front of engine very easily (especially if the plate/gaskets have "slotted" bolt hole, so it just drops in without having to fully remove the 2 bolts).

 

Mine is already remapped by Shark, and I have their handheld unit to apply/remove maps with at my will. They are supposed to be creating an updated map for me to disable EGR, once they email it to me I can apply the update myself and fit the plate at the same time.

Part of my reason for doing this is to prevent future EGR issues...

Does it definitely go into limp mode, or just give you a warning ?

I bought the plates off ebay, only fitted the one nearest the manifold, went for a run, and within a few miles went into limp mode.  VCDS said egr fault, so had to reset and remove the plate. Could have just drilled a small hole in the plate, but I'd rather get the job done properly once and for all..

Sadly, I may have to go to the official Skoda service.

Day after I replied here, another warning light pop up on dashboard. So now I have warning light for EGR and warning light for Control system for exhaust.

I quote owners manual:

 

"The warning light [SYMBOL HERE] comes on after the ignition has been switched on.

If the warning light does not go out after starting the engine or it lights up when driving, a fault exists in an exhaust relevant component. The engine management

system selects an emergency programme which enables you to drive to the nearest specialist garage by adopting a gentle style of driving."

 

Well ****. What now hahahah
