Driver Indicator always on

Featured Replies

Folks I've a 2012 1.6 Greenline superb, while taking children to school this morning the orange bulb warning light came on. When indicating right the arrow will flash rapidly. I assumed an indicator bulb had just blown. In closer expection the driverside indicator bulb stays on. Rear indicator and mirror indicator are both off, even with key out and car locked the driver remains on. Switched bulb same problem any help would be appreciated

Thanks

The vehicle status menu on the MFD will give further information about what it thinks the problem is. It might be good to try replacing that bulb? The detection system is quite sensitive so it can detect a bulb that's on its way out.

After that, you may have to plug in diagnostics to see what the BCM has picked up.

I don't have the MFD system she's only the s model have tried replacing bulb same issue, reading about octiva 2 online and someone else has had same error and they had to change the comfort control module :crying:

A common issue I'm afraid. The CCM (electronic module that controls the vehicles lighting system) has failed. It is a known issue on the MkII Octavia and MkII Superb. Things like fitting aftermarket HID headlight kits are known to contribute to the problem although they have been known to randomly fail by themselves too.

You'll need a new one, it is located above the pedals close to the steering column. It will need coding to the car too so a job for an auto-electrician.

Be sure to remove the indicator bulb or disconnect the battery or it will flatten the battery.

It does sound like a dead BCM, possibly from a hid kit.

If that is the case, a decent electronics repair place should be able to fix it for you. It's not a hard repair but you ideally need a hot air station as you won't get the broken component off with a soldering iron.

Alternatively, you can fit a used BCM but I'd suggest using a vw specialist otherwise you may have issues with the lighting configuration. It's not something that can be coded with VCDS.

If you have an autoscan I may be able to provide an exchange service for your current BCM.

Langers, do you know what the part is that fails?

When a HID kit is fitted, it tends to be the driver chip for the front right indicator as that's the first thing along the ground path from one of the headlamp driver chips.

You can't miss it once you've got a BCM open, just follow pin T52ac/50 to the chip, it'll probably start with VND :)

That would explain akot I have recently fitted an aftermarket hid kit

It is strange though.

I have a HID kit on my 2011 Superb, it's been fitted for four years / 110,000 miles now without issue.

I wonder if some BCM's are more sensitive or whether there are poorer / better quality HID kits?

This is the kit I have fitted...

I deliberately went for the non-CANBUS friendly kit and chose to have the car coded instead. I think the CANBUS friendly kits cause more issues?

Do you have resistors fitted to the HIDs???, this allegedly stops the BCM from going, I had my BCM go on my last superb same problem, as it was close to christmas i got the dealer to fit one quite expensive if you take it to them

It sounds like you may have repaired one?

I was curious because you mentioned using a heat station but you would also need the correct die for the smd component you want to remove and then there is the issue of is the "chip" available?

@silver1011, I think it's down to the ballast more than the BCM. If it's dumping energy back into the BCM it'll damage it. You must be fortunate enough to have gotten some of the better ballasts with your kit but I'm sure I've read people having londoncolor kits damage their BCMs.

@skippy41, if you really want to use aftermarket ballasts, you should use a relay kit like Mike did in this Octavia. More info in this thread.

@superbdreams, there is no need for a die, just some decent flux and solder. You'll struggle to remove the old chip without hot air as there is a large central pad on the underside. I use VND5E050AK, they seem to be used in the H110, H111 and H112 versions. I've not had anything older and I'd always suggest checking before buying.

It's 'not recommended for new designs' but isn't hard to find. If you just want one I can probably help out :)
