Which Wheel Coating? (C5, Dlux or other?)

Featured Replies

will be coating my 19"  Extreme alloys when my car funanly arrives

ive been searching around and there's few to choose from

i want to try get the wheels off and coat them so would need a 30ml bottle for 4x 19" wheels face and barrel, the C5 is £40 for 30ml

are there any others that will do the same but bit more cost effective?

Thanks

I haven't used C5 (hopefully someone who has can share some info with you) but it does look good.

I use Auto Finesse Mint Rims & even thou it says it last 2-3 months & C5 I think says up to 1 year protection the price difference is by half & you get a 100ml

I can recommend AF MR probably not as good as C5 (I would of thought) but does the job perfectly good enough for me & after 3 months I tend to do a quick front face application until I get the time to take the wheels off & do a full wheel coating. (twice a year at least)

Or even better for the price:

I haven't used but something that I will be looking to try in the future when my AF MR runs out (but still got plenty left)

Ceramic wise..... Carbon Collective Platinum Wheels is great and cheaper than most (See discount code section)

Wax/Sealant wise..... FK1000P or BMD Revolutions are simple and easy to use.

I've had C5 on mine since it was a few days old.  20 months and 11k miles later and it's holding up really well.  Wheels are always nice and easy to clean.

Gets my vote  although I don't really have anything to compare it to.

PS: Thought I had.... commented on the C5 last July:

Thanks all

I have FK1000p and also Mint Rims already in my arsenal lol

but as with Detailing, always looking for the next best thing... and empty wallet

Gtechniq C5 or Crystal Serum Light both superb, as is Gyeon Q2 Rim - all have better durability than Carpro dlux from testing - which is why your applying the coating in the first place obviously.

cheers

i plan to take each wheel off one at a time.

Yes it should do providing you don't saturate the applicators.

I threw some Gyeon Wetcoat on mine the other day, will let you know how it performs.

Phew !

From what I have seen, C5 was the best option so I ordered some to do all around on 19's on the new car when it arrives. I must admit I was a little concerned when I saw how little 15ml is :D

Any tips for best application beyond the instructions ?

As with most things it's all in the prep so...

wash

fallout remover

de-tar

ensure wheel/tyre is completely dry

surface prep - panel wipe or similar

apply

There is no set way of applying but I've got into a routine of coating the barrels first then spin the wheel round and do the faces.

Use a couple of microfibres per wheel - one to remove the majority of the coating, the second for a final buff...really not a difficult product to use - should take no more than a few minutes to coat the complete wheel. Infact it'll take you longer to remove and refit the wheel!
