KW suspension

Featured Replies

I have a question for someone familiar with KW suspension, maybe @flybynite?

Their V2 range for the O3 features helper springs in the illustrations, like below.

Their V3 range doesn't.

Can anyone tell me why this is? I've just received some V3's with no helper springs, and I'm trying to work out if they've forgotten to include them.

Probably something to do with the V3 having progressive springs, and the V2 having linear springs.

The spring on the V3 is probably has enough height when unloaded to stay put and not move around.

That would be my guess but if you are really concerned drop KW a message and they are pretty good at getting back to you

The pictures will just be for illustration purposes and not pictures of the actual kits.

Yeah I've asked them just now. What I'm finding is that when I go over a dip in the road rather quickly, I hear a huge crash. I'm wondering if it's because I'm lacking helper springs.

True, but the picture actually happens to look like the one I received.

Update - suspension has been in two weeks and really pleased. One slight issue in that I don't want it very low and in doing so, critical measurements KW specify aren't being met and the spring coils are touching when I go over a dip in the road. KW have recommended alternative springs so I'm waiting for these to arrive now.

What has it done for the ride and handling - I struggle a bit with the NZ roads on mine with the 19s!

I used to run Carlsson coilover (rebranded KW) on my previous W203 C Class. I believe it's the V1 version, but the front spring setup is the same as the V3 as per the above pictures. Ride was good but a great deal firmer. I really noticed how firm it was after switching to the OEM before selling the car. Very stable at high speed, no fidgeting at all speed whatsoever. There was a good deal of spring chatter from the front, there wasn't any plastic sleeve for insulation. There was an occsaional bump if going over speed bump rather quickly.

Do you mean the spring touch the wheels going over bump?

I had to run a low offset wheels in the front to properly clear the spring.

The KW's are crazy adjustable - honestly even 2 clicks of adjustment makes a huge difference (and there are 16).

Handling is really, really good. Along with the suspension I got an uprated (22mm) rear sway bar. The suspension is from Racer Products in Auckland.

Jury is still out on the height. It looks awesome but I'm finding I need to be super careful with kerbs and parks now, which is getting on my nerves. Guess I can't have the best of both worlds.

Your roads in Auckland are surely better than the ones down here ;)

So the KW's have plastic sleeves, and no I mean the coils actually touch each other. There isn't much distance between them so I guess the rapid impact of the dip makes them touch. I'll post an update once the alternative springs arrive.
