1.4tdi se pre reg?

Featured Replies

Thinking about a pre reg Fabia 1.4tdi SE at £11494, 9 miles on a 66 plate.

Can not go and barter face to face as the garage is 140 miles away but on the phone the salesman told me there was no room for maneuver as he was already selling at a loss. Exceptional value for money or a little white lie from the salesman?

Was also considering a courtesy 1.4tdi SE with 3000 miles on a June 16 reg £ 9700. This car is also a long way from home and they seem reluctant to stop lending it to customers so they can video the car and check if it has any damage at all, obviousley I would not want to travel that far to find the car was not as described?.They also would not throw in any extras at all, not even a boot mat.

A difference of £1700 pounds more for a car that has not travelled 3000 miles nor been driven by numerous other people!

I will be keeping the vehicle for along time, my current Mark1 which is nearly 12 years old has done 160k.

There do not seem to have many pre reg around at the moment, the only other similar ones I can find at the moment are in Belfast which is difficult to get to and from without spending over £200.

There is always room for manoeuvre

For a start on pre reg the manufacturers rebate for hitting the registration target (hence pre reg) is not given away  this is pure profit for the dealer and can be as much as £150-£1000 per car

The dealer groups i have worked for in the past the accounts department charges new and used car sales departments depreciation on each car each month and again if it was used as a courtesy car or demonstrator for asking as the car is in stock so a car with a sticker price of say £10k could only stand the dealer at 8k depending on how long it was held in the compound Before being registered

Other thing to bear in mind are you sure you want diesel still ?? IE do you do the mileage

Rough calculation you would need to cover approx 40k miles just to break even with cost comparison to petrol

Radio 4 the other day had a article on diesels pretty much saying for now it's ok but residual value is dropping quickly and as soon as London ban diesel cars and any other towns and cities begin to follow suit expect it to be worthless and taxed off the roads by government

Go to any dealer and they will have diesel pre reg and offers lying in wait but petrol cars at the minute prices remain firm especially with the ved rule changes due

I'd be surprised if London bans diesels outright- what's more likely is to extend the low emission zone to cover all vehicles to Euro 4 standards (not just lorries and vans). But the TSI petrols are great engines- they're certainly worth a look. If you don't do long journeys and the car doesn't get to heat up properly then the DPF in the TDI is going to clog up and cause you trouble, and you won't be getting amazing MPG to compensate for the costs.

Thanks for the above views.

15k a year at least, lot of mileage in the summer, less in the winter as I take people to the med etc. 50 miles each way, motorway or cross Country depending on the time of day to and from Manchester Airport. Will keep the car for a long time, current Mk1 has done 162k, till it's residual value is only a few hundred pounds.

Never get near the center of big cities.

A lot of current vehicles are diesel, the Government would need to be very careful of massive increase on taxation. Nothing like the cost of motoring to loose voter's

It will be offered in the form of a scrappage scheme first i suspect that's the rumour anyway

A cross party directive for the benefit of public health etc will circumvent any Backlash against a particular party

Will it happen ??? Who knows but i think the diesel bubble has well and truly burst especially in the small car sector

I had rather been hoping for the scrappage scheme to have been announced in the budget the other week.

Scrappage schemes really help the wealthy to buy a brand ew car, those who can only afford to buy second hand gain nothing and so have no incentive to get rid of an old vehicle untill it becomes uneconomical to repair.

Two of the last 3 Fabias that I bought from a dealer were pre registered.  Apparantly they were registered to Skoda and not the dealer and were held in Skoda's compound down south.  Only a handful of miles on them.  Both were shipped by transporter to the dealer.  So it might be worthwhile asking any Skoda dealer to check Skoda's own pre registered stock.  I had a choice of colour with a good saving on new price.  They can only say no.

When you have a Salesperson counting their chickens and saying that is the best price they can offer,

ask 'Are the Recall Actions going to be done before you hand over my new car?',  then that can burst their bubble.

'Never heard of that' etc etc

Tell them if they do not know then who is likely to as they are the ones doing the job 6 days a week.

'How much more can you get off that car, go ask your Manager again?'

'Maybe do a 2 year Extended Warranty for Free.'

But lets be clear about this.. Petrol's aren't clean are they now.. !? It's going to be years before diesels die.. anyone with Euro6 or Euro7 engine, isn't going to be targetted anytime soon.. they'd do better getting rid of busses, HGVs and diesel trains which are pumping out in a month more the average Fabia owner would do in a year or more!

^^^ Do you mean in the UK with Euro 6, because you could be at times in Oslo, or in some cities on Continental Europe on occasions.

As to Euro 7's, time will tell once Euro 7 emission vehicles are on sale.

But in the UK you are pretty safe, maybe just higher parking charges on some diesels by some more local authorities.

Thanks nbramwel for the advice about Fabias being pre Reg in Skoda's name, I am now looking at one which has supposedly been sourced from Skoda national stock, ie the compound down South.

Turns out the pre reg up North with only 9 miles on the clock actually had nearer 2000 so that was well overpriced. It was for sale with a company named after a city in the South West of the UK.

I personally do not envisage big tax rises on Diesels that are all ready on the road but we may see increases in future new cars as has just happend. I personally can not get to excited about polution from my car, as an airline pilot I can burn 30T of fuel in a day.

We will see re taxing them off the roads

Why just this week it was leaked a possible £20 per day charge for certain city use

Auto express reported it as well as the tabloids

It's coming and it's only going to go one way from then on
