Second question, Bonnet switch

Featured Replies

Thank you for the rapid reply to my first question.

My second relates to the bonnet switch. I know its supposed to be on the lock plate

for the bonnet, but our fabia mk1 dosnt seem to have a switch.

I have searched the entire area and can find no sign of a switch.

Do all Fabia mk1's have the switch?

Im at a bit of a loss.

Many thanks for any help.

No, not all have it.

Thank you, that rules out one more issue on the great front wiper issue. along with fuses!

What's happening with the front wipers? Or not happening?

Mine has no bonnet switch either.

Only on cars with alarm system, I think?

Well to be accurate, nothing. It seems its a common fault with this car but having gone through the obviouse

im not having much luck. I had a chat with a Skoda tech and he recomended replacing the power control unit

I did that having first checked all the fuses and hunted for the bonnet switch. I have also had the wiper motor

off and tested it on the bench, runs fine with voltage applied to the terminals.

I bought a cable and the Ross tech lite software but could find no error codes.

It was worth having as I used it to code the replacment power unit.

At a bit of a loss at the moment..

Many thanks.

Yes I think so :)

Possible wiper stalk fault?

Thats coming on for being the only thing left to look at. I hope not as it looks like a real pain to get too.

If you stick your ear down by the onboard supply control unit do you hear any (relay) click when you activate the wipers?

  • Author

Hi

I put my ear next to the unit not a sound from it.

That does suggest the 'commands' aren't getting through from the stalk, I think.  Let me see if I can find a conclusive test.

Sorry, the switch looks too complicated in the wiring diagrams for my common-cold-afflicted brain to work out a safe/useful test.

Fuse 15 is definitely OK/replaced?

Thank you for trying.

I checked all the fuses in the box with a multi meter, What I cant see from the wiring diagram is the placement of the fuse in relation

to the wiper motor. My guess is its between the relay in the power control unit and the motor its self. When I have had

large volumes of tea I will look through the diagram again.

I work on steam engines for a living so these infernal combustion cars are a bit modern for me.

Once again thank you for trying.

Fuse 15 feeds 12V into the stalk, fuse 41 feeds 12V into the relays within the control unit that, when energised, switch on the wipers.

PS Need any help with those steam engines? I could do with a change.

You wouldn't like it, everything is too big and too heavy.

What makes you think I don't like big and heavy?

Have to say as jobs go its an interesting one, most of what I do is machine new parts for traction engines.

Id swap for an office job sometimes.

Hehe, I ain't no Shallow Hal.

Hehe

There is an option in VCDS actually sends a test signal, without using the stalk, to run the wipers. Check if it is an option in your "light" version or if someone local with the full version can assist. I think that I picked central electrics module and then there was an option to run tests which allowed intermittent, slow and fast wiper speeds to be run - someone more used to VCDS will be able to advise exact option, which may check for column stalk problems.
