Almost at 85k. Whats the bill looking like?

Recommended Posts

My 2014 2.0 TDi estate is coming up to 85k soon. I do about 15k a year mixed driving but have had the car for about a month. It's an ex pcp car and has been well kept and maintained by the Skoda dealer with full service history.

I'm most likely to hit 100k in the next year. What parts are going to need looking at? I know the dpf will need sorting at 100k but what else is due?

Well wait until the DPF packs up before you replace it. Its probably the best part of £1k, so you dont want to do that for a laugh. It will wipe out your diesel fuel savings for a couple of years.

Other than that just usual servicing, brake fluid change every 2 years, and tyres and brakes when they are required.

Ok that's cool for some reason I got the impression other parts would need replaces at this kind of mileage?

No idea why I thought that! Although the dpf is expensive enough to sort out lol.

Whats the likelihood/feasibility of DPF reconditioning? Will specialists start to offer a service? or is a replacement the only way?

Could be worth a go, lot less expensive that a new one, There are quite a few companies doing it now.

Might need a cambelt also, but I think thats 150k miles?

Could be an option! May look into that when it needs doing.

Yea belt was done at 75k I believe. Only having the car a month I'm not 100% sure. My service book is an electronic one so it doesn't doesn't say much in the book

As mentioned DPF isn't a serviceable item so wait until it goes. Only 3 years old with 85k means the DPF is probably in decent condition. I'd expect it's had plenty of successful regens with that sort of mileage in a reasonably short time.

Other things at this mileage if not done already will probably be bushes and new brake discs.

Sorry, a little off topic here, with regards to covering 85k, have you found that the engine is noiser at idle compared to when it was lower mileage. I only ask as I've recently bought a mk7 golf 2.0 tdi 150 with simialr mileage and I find that, once upto temperature, the engine sounds tinny (want for a better word) at idle, but ok when revving. I don't notice it with the windows closed and it drives very smoothly and is very quiet otherwise.

Yea it was used for motorway runs by an older gent for the first three years of it's life. Serviced every 10k and arrived to me with new brake disks and pads and new set of Pilot Sport 4s on each corner. Been very well kept and will continue to be.

I have noticed a slight creaking on the rear right side suspension when its cold so I'm assuming its probably a bush?

Can't say I've noticed any different but then again I've only had the car a month or so so its been too cold to drive too often with the window down. I'll keep an ear out for it though and let you know!

It may be just the engine settling in once up to temp. Mine drives very smooth and goes like the clappers when I put my foot down. I've always thought mine sounds quite meaty/throaty when up to temp.

Thanks, mine drives great it's just this tinny sound at idle once warm. It's currently in the VW garage having its cambelt/waterpump replaced, just for my peace of mind, I know its early. I've asked them to take a look at it so I might have some more info later. If so, I'll post it.

Well, got the car back yesterday afternoon from VW Beadles Maidstone, they reported that the noise I can hear is normal. I must admit it does sound a little better since they changed the cambelt etc, so it could have possibly been a tensioner. It does still sound a bit tinny at idle, I'm gonna have it up on ramps over the weekend and I'll take a look and listen with a mechanics stethoscope.

As to the work carried out by Beadles, I wasn't really impressed. The plastic cover over the top of the radiator was scuffed and some deep gouges have appeared on it, which wasn't there before yesterday and also theres a small scratch on the o/s front bumper that wasn't there either :(

Sorry to hear about that! I hate shoddy workmanship. At least it sounds like good news about the sound.

My occy has just gone into the body shop today. Some idiot tried reversing into a gap next to me and got it completely wrong. Left a nice chunk of paint missing on my bumper and cracked my reg plate.

While its getting sorted I've been given the most basic CitiGos known to man. Great fun revving the nuts off it to get anywhere! Now that's a tinny sounding engine!

Yep totally agree and workmanship. I know its annoying when these type of accidents happen but at least you'll hopefully get it sorted. Trouble is I'm very picky, I always check when works been done, regardless what its for, car, home etc, my wife says its OCD and I totally agree :D

That's why I tend to do alot of my own work on my cars, other than the cambelt !

I'm completely OCD like this also. Recently had a tyre repair done by a local garage. Took pictures of the wheel before I took it in. Came out from the garage and inspected the wheel in the car park to find a couple of gouges which weren't there previously.

The garage sorted it properly (not first time, mind) but if i hadn't been OCD and taken pictures before and inspected the work before driving away, I'd have no doubt been sucking up the cost of a new wheel myself or living with it.

I totally agree with you, but it's got bad over the years where you can't trust a main dealer, I hear some of you say, could you ever ? :) But when I had my Octavia's, Sherlodge Garage, now Motorline Medway, always gave a great service in the 14 years I was with them.
