Vrs backseat comfort

Featured Replies

Hi

I am hoping to buy a mk3 Vrs estate to use as a taxi.

Could anybody let me know how comfortable it is in the backseats for passengers?

Would it make a practical taxi in your opinion?

The car will be used mostly around town and the odd airport run.

Many Thanks.

Dom

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, I reckon the Octavia is an excellent choice for a taxi.

I guess i asked for that!

Just concerned as i really like the interior of the Vrs but have heard stories that the ride is very harsh compared to a normal Octavia?

Misspelling

Worst is the vomit inducing lack of visability due to the sport seats.

I also had a lot of complaints about road noise and harsh ride from passengers although it never bothered me overly before I got rid of it.

Other than that that it'd make a good taxi as the space is great although don't expect decent mpg from the diesel in my experience.

Thanks for your input gullyg.

Maybe the Elegance 150 might be more comfortable for passengers.

It would make a practical taxi but I suspect sport suspension and low profile tyres aren't generally plus points for a taxi or ride comfort.

If it was me I'd take a 1.6 TDI Octavia for taxi duty (fuel economy and ride is going to be better) or get a Superb 2.0 TDI. Rode in the back of a Superb in Prague and it was absolutely fine.

The new facelift has a slightly better sound insulation, and good comfort if you buy one with the Dynamic chassis control.

The multilink rear suspension is also better than the old fashion one on the cheaper models.

I'd imagine on taxi journey distances no-one would complain about the rear seats or ride quality.

I've taken several long journeys as a rear passenger & often drive with 4 or 5 in the car without any complaints.

I'd agree with Gullyg that the sports seats from the front do limit a bit the visibility but having riden in the back many times its never caused me a problem.

They also limit the practicality of the large load space a little as the headrest cannot be remove & the seat cannot be fully folded forwards.

It would be worth taking a test drive in one just to feel how the suspension behaves on the city roads where you'd drive as the sports suspension & lower-profile tyres can be harsh over potholes or rough road.

Probably the 1.6tdi is a better choice purely as a taxi but the vRS styling & performance is hard to ignore for when you are not working..

However it sounds crazy, our RS (on 18" winters still) is more comfortable then our other car Octavia Elegance TDI 150HP on 16". Somewhere I've read that all TSI are more comfortable, especially on the back seat, then TDI. Can't generalize, just compare our two Octavia's from the first hand.

The point of my writing was to highlight that not necessarily vRS is less comfortable car then "civil" Octavia. Any Octavia is more then capable for being a Taxi.

Quite interesting idea to make RS a Taxi. :) I would like to see pic of this car.

Wow. A lot of brilliant advice from everybody. Thank you all.

I will do some test drives and hope the Vrs comes through. I will definitely post some pics.

Cheers.

My neighbour has a Octavia VRS taxi ;)

BTW, my car is more comfortable with the Eibach-Pro springs than with the original ones ;)

Would a Skoda Kodiaq not be a better vehicle, maybe even giving a more prestige image?

I have a vRS hatch and once a friend of mine was sitting in the back who`s about 6"4 and he felt comfortable on a long journey from London to Southampton and back. He even fall asleep too :tongueout:

On the other hand you could replace the 18" wheels to 17" to make it "comfortable"

The facelift 2017 model has DCC??!

Even earlier, for end of production pre-FL models Škoda also offered DCC as an option.

My 230 has it.

Edit: I've just checked and it's available here too, just wasn't when I purchased mine!

I've just purchased a 1.6 tdi for use as a taxi. Was sorely tempted by the vRS but the mechanic put me off when he mentioned the cost of tyres plus people don't respect taxis. I think I would get angry if the interior of my vRS was abused.
