New genuine rear springs sit high

Featured Replies

OK. On my car, which is a 2011 vRS Combi (estate).

The rear springs are yellow / blue.

I thought they would be different - but if you look at the below there is a post, with stock springs removed from a liftback and they are the same yellow / blue (it was in a different market though - Australia.)

My PR code says 2UC.

Langers2k seems to have some understanding of all this.

Edit: Ps, the dots were easily identifiable on my 6 yo car.  You've got new springs. It should be easy enough to spot on one of the springs at least. I think it has been asked b4.

Hi

Had a rear spring break last week, so had a pair of genuine Skoda rear springs fitted a couple of days ago. Would anybody have the part number for rear springs, just to compare, as the garage have the part number of the ones fitted. Late 2011 VRS TSI hatchback. Thank's for any info.

Can you imagine, how many versions available from Skoda? Are you sure you got original Skoda springs and not any aftermarket ones? Do you have any PN for parts you got? Best advice is to pop in Skoda dealer, give him VIN and get the latest PN matching your VIN at their ETKA. Aftermarket never give you more than few options, sometimes is that OK, sometimes not ...

Nor sure what are your PR codes for suspension, look at sticker in boot or in service book. Attached few general prints from ETKA for all three versions of estate (regular , heavy and lowered) without 4x4 ...

Thanks guys

After reading all the latest posts today, I jacked the car up and with a mirror to look around the back of the springs, I could see the colour dots. Now the garage when they first ordered the new springs that are now on the car, stated they could not see the dots on the old springs due to too much rust. They then had to trust TPS to supply the correct ones with the chassis number of my car. TPS got it wrong, as the dots I see on the fitted springs are--- YELLOW, YELLOW, YELLOW, PURPLE AND WHITE. The posts I have just read tonight have said they should be a BLUE and a YELLOW. So now the garage have another set of rear springs from TPS, I thought I would go down and check the dots on the latest new replacements. HURRAY----one BLUE dot and one YELLOW one, which should be correct. How TPS got the order wrong the first time and now have it correct, I shall never know. The latest springs are going to be fitted next Wednesday morning, so hopefully I will soon have a car that sits right. Once again, thank you one and all for your as usual excellent information.

Well just to fully close this topic, the second set of new springs have been fitted, the correct ones this time. It's amazing what a difference a drop of only about an inch makes to the look. Thanks one and all for the info provided.

Thank goodness. I'm sure the garage was wrapped in changing the springs out twice!  I do wonder how much might have been TPS user error in interpreting the parts diagrams, especially if different variants are used in footnotes notes in parts diagrams.

FWIW, your tyres Goodyear efficient grip by the looks are W rated, on my vRS the tyre plate minimum is 92Y, technically W is illegal, although in practical terms of course it is all irrelevant.

Yes. don't know how TPS got it so wrong. Can't beat the old days when the parts man knew off by heart every part on the shelf for all models.

I think I should be okay with a W rated tyre. W are rated to 168mph. Can't quite get up to that speed for some reason. Your Y rating allows you to exceed 186mph.

It is academic I agree, but I don't make the vehicle regulations or the law pertaining to vehicle compliance.  We can't fit H rated tyres for the same reason even though they well exceed 70MPH. How low can you take it?  I was just pointing out to you in case you were unaware and if you ever find yourself against a fine print focused glasses wearing insurance assessor with pocket protectors.....
