Asda - 5L VW 507.00 spec oil £13

Featured Replies

That's a very good price, however even though it says it meets the 507 requirements id be cautious to put that in my engine, especially when OEM approved quantum oil is £10 more delivered from Amazon.

ASDA do source their Oil from proper Oil producers,

not like own brand beans or soup were it is a matter of taste, with Oil the International Wallmart / ASDA are getting the Spec as should be.

Exactly, well said sir.

Too many brand fairies and snake oil salesmen, don't fall for their nonsense. Oil is oil if it meets the spec. and that's an awesome price.

Asda source their oil from Castrol !!

Where did we think they got it from? Captain Birdseye?

Do we have a source for ASDA Oil being sourced from Castrol & not COMMA?

Nothing in the "A for ASDA" section of VW group approved oils.

Doesn't mean it wouldn't be approved if they submitted it for approval of course.

I've always wondered, maybe one of you guys know...when an oil is tested and meets (or exceeds) the requirements of (whichever) oil spec, is there any 'lifespan testing' where it's tested for how long it stays within the spec? Or is that part and parcel of the spec?

Not Mk1 vRS relevant but real world the ASDA 5w 40 FS is just lovely in 1.4TSI 132Kw Mk2 Fabia.

Oil changes at less than 10,000 miles & just using instead of Castrol / Quantum 5W 30 FS Long Life & fixed servicing can reduce oil use in ones that use Excessive oil, but then that is true of many other 5W 40 FS from various brands.

(No test results other than proven by using it.)

Wouldn't that be Cod Liver Oil ?  Not sure on the spec though......................

Asda's oil maker is being quoted as being Tetrosyl on another car site, yes said to be manufactured by these clever people that made that black stuff that ended up in your hair/eyes/ears all these years ago when carrying out the "great summer rust beating" procedures!

Edit:- mind you, maybe Birdseye make a better oil?
