Advice on taking delivery needed

Featured Replies

It's getting near that time that I take delivery of my new fabia vrs and i can't sleep so was wondering if you kind peeps would add your advice and tips to make getting my car a good experience.

This is what I've got so far....

Send off my tax disc on Velma the day before the last day of feb for a refund.

Get some insurance quotes, arrange insurance before pick up and take cover note with me.

Check the car over being guided by my invoice that tells me what I should be checking :o.

Take a CD along with me to check the stereo.

Fill up with BP ultimate? think that ones the popular fuel on here (correct me if i'm wrong)

Blast down the M27 to give her a good run in case of any probs.

But don't take it over 3000 revs for the first 1000 miles?

Chain myself to it when I get on the ferry :D

Anything else I have missed?

Just make sure you give it a really close inspection for dents or scratches, my Superb had a dent in the sill that they tried to tell me was meant to be there cos it showed where the jacking point was!! turned out that the apprentice hadn't used the jacking point correctly when he fitted my optional alloys!

They only conceded when I pointed out that no other Superbs had this dent!

Yeah look around the vehicle, underneath if possible as well. The only catch is that it probably has the protective wax junk underheat the sills, looks like buttery junk, it's used to protect the paintwork etc.

As it's a BM you should be able to spot blemishes in the paintwork REAL easy as they will pretty much show white or metal 'through'.

A quick check of the lights I always tend to do as well. And please when you take it on the motorway, do a few gentle 70->40 and then back up cycles on the brakes (not hard, just reasonably firm braking) to get the worst crud off. I just had the 312mm upgrade fitted and the first time I hit the anchors it felt like it wasn't gonna stop (read: I expected at least as good as my normal brakes but of course that won't happen as these pads were new = my bad).

A few cycled braking sessions later and it was fine. Will still take it a little easy anyway.

Running-in wise, avoid using Cruise Control if you have it fitted and take it up the motorway, vary your speed and gear a bit, perhaps find a nice twisty road after a while and make full use of gears and brakes without going too hard on the brakes. Your tyres will need scrubbing in a little, so the grip just won't be as good to start with.

My '1st day' was spent driving it until the fuel light came on, refuelled it and took it back a bit after that. Just drove it around showing it off etc. Happens :D

Enjoy & starting to count the days yet :P ;)

Make sure you also check the dash (around the binnacle) for any signs of moulding bubbles. It's worth also to check your upholstery as I have seen a couple where the seat covers look a little 'baggy'. Spare wheel and supplied accessories. Obviously check that any options specified are fitted to your vehicle.

I filled up with BP Ultimate and think it's great. Most of all enjoy.
