Drivers seat adjustment?

Featured Replies

Hi, I took delivery of a MKIII Superb Hatch SE Tech 2.0 TDI DSG in Quartz Grey last week and I'm like a kid with a new toy. I've done just short of 500 miles so far and in so many ways, this car seems better than the demo's I test drove before ordering. My only issue, which I hope I can overcome, is that for some reason I just don't seem able to get the lumbar support just right? I jump in the passenger seat and it immediately feels comfy, but for some reason I just can't get the drivers seat to feel the same?

I don't remember it being like this when I collected the car? My first journey (from leaving the garage) was about 25 miles and I'm sure I would have noticed...

I made the mistake of letting a colleague sit in the car a couple of days after I got it, for some reason he felt a need to play with every button and switch (in particular the seat) and I hadn't set the memory. It might be my imagination but I've never got the seat to feel right since.

Someone on the 'welcome' forum suggested a default and I wondered if there was such a thing as a 'factory reset' for the seat, can anyone here advise?

Love the car though........... and looking forward to reading the experiences of other owners on this forum.

All the best,

Terry

I don't know about a reset but I lost my ideal setting whilst playing with the seat and finally I found that I had adjusted the lumber support to spread up the back. When I took it back down to just behind the small of my back it was a lot more comfortable.

1 -Seat base fully forward

2 - seat base rear up to top

3 - seat back fully forward  you should hear a boing

memory should clear and be ready for  new memory setting

set your seat how you want it press set then number

job done

cheers

Morning. Thanks for the replies. I made a few tweaks before leaving the office yesterday and I think I've got it very close... it might even be okay now. You need to be in the car for a little while to really notice, a 5 - 10 mile journey doesn't do it (my drive home is 25 miles but I was making very small adjustments throughout the journey).

One thing I have noticed is that when adjusting the lumbar, you need to take any pressure off the back of the seat otherwise it changes slightly when you get out/in. I guess this is because it's on cables rather than being 'fixed', it effectively floats....

And maybe I'm being over sensitive (I'm consciously checking it all the time now)? I'm 55, I've driven hundreds of vehicles new and used and I've never had this issue...

I'm determined to get it sorted one way or another because in every other way, I really like the car. It drives really well and is getting better as it loosens up.

Hi, still not got this sorted...

Did a journey of about 50 miles last night and got out with backache. I really don't understand this, I honestly can't remember having this issue with any car I've ever owned? I'm not unfit and I don't have back problems....

I'm still convinced it's the adjustment (rather than a faulty seat) because I just don't remember having the problem when I first collected the car. Sat on the drive I can get it to feel perfect but after 15 - 20 minutes driving I can feel pressure in my lower back, it's very localised almost like a bar?

Surely I'm not the only MKIII Superb owner to have experienced this?

I appreciate I can't expect someone to provide a series of settings to resolve this but any advice that points me in the right direction would be gratefully received. A big ask I know but it's spoiling what is otherwise a lovely car....

My memory seats have dementia.  They will randomly decide they no longer want to be in the position I have 'stored' and will just move as I open the car door.  I then spend a few frustrating days trying to get comfortable again and store the position only to have them persist for some random amount of time before they then reset.

I've tried the reset procedure and checked there's no software updates to be done on my particular car.  TBH it's really starting to annoy me.  I didn't spec them as they are standard on the UK spec Sportline but seeing as they are fitted I would expect them to work.

I'm with you Whaty, it's spoiling what is otherwise a great car.

Does anyone else drive the car, or are you the only driver?

If it's only you, you can turn of 'personalisation', which should stop it moving the seat when you unlock the car.

I'm finding my seats quite comfy on both short and long journeys, the only (annoying) issue I'm having is that the electric seat raises a couple of inches from its lowest position every time I get back in the car, despite resetting the memory on numerous occasions. I might consider switching off the personalisation setting as there's only ever me who drives the car. That might work?

I've heard it's a safety issue and it won't let you keep the seat at its lowest. I think it might even mention it in the book.

I can't believe I'm admitting this to a bunch of strangers but in sheer desperation, I downloaded a H&S document on how to adjust your car seat. I've been driving for almost 40 years and I'm downloading instructions on how to adjust a seat.!

Anyway, it takes you through a step by step procedure to obtain the correct seating position... I followed it to the letter and low and behold...... I was more uncomfortable than I was before I started.! :) Hey, you've got to smile.

However, it did force me to start from scratch and whilst stationary, sat on the drive, it feels okay... My wife and I will be out and about tomorrow so I'll see what it's like after doing a few miles but I'm not convinced.

This may sound daft but... whilst it feels okay, it isn't as comfy as the passenger seat and I just can't pin down why? I sit in the passenger seat and it immediately feels right. I sit in the drivers seat and whilst it's okay, I immediately feel a need to adjust my back slightly and no matter what I do, I just can't seem to resolve this.

I'm sorry, I feel like I'm wittering on about this too much now. If and when I get this sorted I'll report back but otherwise, I'm going to sign off this topic now and leave you people to enjoy your Easter weekend.

Thanks to all those that have posted,

Terry

Thanks for the ingo Tigermad. Surely if having my seat set to its lowest position was a safety risk then the seat would be designed not to reach that position in the first place? Besides, I've deactivated the personalised setting option and now my seat stays set in the lowest position all the time, which is what i want it to do. So I'm guessing it's more likely to be a glitch in the way the personalised setting works opposed to a genuine safety risk?

It will work. That's what I had to do to stop it moving the seat upwards and forwards every time I unlocked the car.

I think it's the angle of the seat back that it won't let you store if it's more than something like 110 degrees

"For safety reasons, it is not possible to store the seat position in the electric seat memory and remote control key memory if the inclination angle of the seat backrest is more than 102° in relation to the seat cushion"

So says the Skoda tech stuff.

I was close :D

Thanks for the response. For non-safety reasons (ie, comfort) I've safely switched the personalised safety option off and now my seat safely stays where I safely set it and want it to safely remain. And not a single H&S compliance sticker anywhere in sight. Result!! Lol

If it was a 'safety issue' then the movement shouldn't be allowed in the first place.  It wouldn't be the same 'safety issue' if moving the seat to the same position using manual adjustment.

Also, the degree of the seat back and cushion surely doesn't change when the base is raising/tilting forward, the angle between the cushion and the seat base remains unchanged, no?  If the backrest itself isn't moving then the angle remains unchanged.

Switching personalisation off is an option but it's just a hack.  Why have a ~£30K car where you have to disable functions and features rather than have (and expect) them to work correctly?!

Penguin 17 - totally agree with you, we're on the same page fella lol

Very true. My car has already been in to the main dealer twice for this issue.

I might try again when it is due for a service, but in the meantime I will have to live with the hack.

Trouble is, as helpfully Sagalout pointed out the seat is programmed to reposition itself for so-called 'safety reasons', so I doubt the dealership will be able to work outside of what Skoda deem as 'safe'. If you ask me I think the whole point of having a memory seat is for it to memorise the drivers preferences. And as a few people have rightly said already, if it's not safe to have the seat set in its lowest position then why has it been designed to allow you to adjust it to that level in the first place? Call me unadventurous, but I'd hazard a guess that it's more to do with the limited capability of the combined personalisation and memory function - as the seat stays set in its lowest position if you deactivate the personalisation setting, just like it does if you have manually adjustable seats too.

How do you turn off personalisation in superb mk2 petrol ?

Sorry, can’t help you there. I’ve never had a mk2.

The moment I open driver door after I have locked and unlocked it, driver seat goes to the lowest position, I just want to stop this from happening, any help ?

Sit in the seat, and adjust it how you want. On the side of the seat, press ‘set’ followed by the ‘number’ that matches the key you are using. (You’ll hear a ‘beep’ as the seating position is stored to that number.)

Next time you lock and unlock with that key, it will return the seat to the position it was in when you ‘set’ it.

I have a Karoq SEL and the drivers seat does not hold position and I am constantly having to wind it back up after sitting in the car for 10-15 miles

You can visibly seat the hand wheel winding back if you hold the drivers seat and rock it back a forward.

Anyone else have this issue, my colleague has the same car and has not problems??
