New member 2nd Skoda

Featured Replies

Just found this site on Google while researching a question on my latest Skoda, which we acquired this week.

I'm on my second Skoda, a Superb 2.0TSi 280 4x4 L&K in Jungle Green.

This replaced our much loved and respected series 2 Superb 2.0TDi 190 4x4 which we owned from new Sept 2012.

The only issue we had with the old car was a replacement of the exhaust gas recirc valve at 90K miles...an expensive repair because of all the parts that have to be removed on the 4x4 to access the EGR. Both sets of discs were done recently too, but otherwise nothing but regular service items.

I'll post my question on winter wheel/tyre compatibility, when I find the right section.

Regards SailorP

Hello SailorP welcome to the forum good to have you with us .:)

Welcome to the forum!  There is a specific thread on the 280s as I'm sure you've probably seen already on the Superb III forum.  There is at least one other member on here with similar but That's quite a very unique machine you have there, 280 as well as jungle green!

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm impressed by the car. It's quick, and discrete. And we love the colour, it really suits the ivory interior (I must wash it and post some pics).

Having owned a series 2 Superb, we are well aware of the huge practicality of the car, it's the reason we went for an almost direct replacement.

The choice of petrol over diesel this time was in response to the recent issues with VAG cheat devices, and the relentless negativity in the press about diesel emissions, both of which have affected public perception of diesels, and likely corresponding depreciation. And I wanted the high power version, as I do enjoy a bit of poke. When we bought the old car, Mrs SailorP out-voted my choice of the V6 version on economy grounds, but this time I got my way.

I'm still grappling with the technical nature of all the driver assistance stuff in the menus. It's fiendishly complex but there's plenty of info to be found in the Superb forum section, as the car's manual isn't as detailed or as well written as I would like.

BRISKODA looks like a really good forum. Plenty of posts and useful advice. I'll be looking to join Freedom when I can (minimum number of posts required???)

I'm a member on the Mercedes Benz forum too, as I have an 02-reg SLK32 AMG as a summer fun car (she comes out of the garage every year on May 1st). She's supercharged, 345bhp, but really old tech compared with the Superb. It will be good to compare the SLK with the Superb as I reckon the Superb is close on performance...about half a second slower to 60mph. Amazing really.... a volume manufacturer's estate car is nearly as fast as an expensive, low-volume selling, top-drawer sports car from only fifteen years ago. The key for me is the capability for overtaking from 50mph, as we live well away from motorways, and have to cope with A-road traffic to get about. The SLK is brilliant as this, but we've both already done some "performance tests", and the new car is definitely much better than the old Skoda, being higher-powered and having the auto box....no thinking about which gear to use, just press the loud pedal really hard, and off we go!

Nice summer :) plus you get to have the perfect sleep car too!  I see you've joined Freedom in the meantime, well worth joining and you get to support the site as well.
