Not enough hi tec

Recommended Posts

A lot of people have complained about lack of hi tec gadgets on some Spaceback models. My old car was a Honda HRV detec EX with every conceivable extra on it,auto lights wipers, rear view camera, city braking, lane departure warning the list goes on.The new Spaceback SE Sport is just what the doctor ordered enough hi tec but not to much,I have taken back control of my driving.

PS.the Honda had to be returned to the dealership five times in its first year, beware of to many trinkets.

It is still short on gadgets for the money, especially when you get more toys for the same or less cash if you buy it as a Seat Toledo.

^^^^ what he said.

It is clearly old fashioned engineering and lacks some toys, neither of which are necessarily bad - as long as you don't pay RRP or anything close. Many of those on here who weren't happy with Rapids paid too much in the first place and had expectations to suit the price.

At 20 or 25% (or more) discount it's a fine value car (with either badge or bodystyle).  I've had mine 3 years and don't plan to change it.

Just been looking at the Superb L&K which seems to be state of the art and is endowed with every bit of tech you could think of. I have had two Toledos and one Rapid and I find that I do not use half the tech (cruise control, remote telephony etc) and hence for some people there is tech overload!

In terms of the tech in mine:

I do use:

cruise control

bluetooth hands free

radio

sat nav (though I retrofitted the Amundsen+ to replace the factory-fitted Swing)

electric windows

12v accessory power socket

manual aircon

I don't use:

Front centre armrest (gets in the way more than it's useful)

That's about it!

Tech I wish it had:

Climate control

DSG gearbox

Pre-heater

Tyre pressure sensors

Boot 12v accessory power socket (probably doable as a retrofit, with some work)

I have all you are missing on my SE Sport and that's about enough. I have been there with all the toys in the past.Take it from me to much is a pain in the rear especially when it consistently goes wrong. The Ideas are great but the reliability is much to be desired

Agree.. people cant complain its lacking spec if they purchase basic spec models.

I think the spec and options on the car are plentiful and having reviewed the spec sheet... the only things its lacking which would be nice options which are on other Skoda models are Park Assist, DCC, Driver Profile Modes, Bigger Infotainment screen to the 8inch version, Full Wifi and internet, TV Turner & phone box and full LED lights and ACC using the Front assist radar and speed limit control CC.

I came from 2 Honda Civics that had buttons and lights everywhere - auto lights that would come on themselves, ditto with the auto wipers.

I like that my car has manual a/c so I can control it as I want, I like that it doesn't have loads of gadgets. If I needed them I wouldn't have bought the car.

I specified 4 things when I bought it: rear discs (tiny thought they are), 6 speed gearbox as I was used to it the Hondas, a/c just because and cruise control as like to use it on long journeys.

It's just a fun car to drive and I've decided after much temptation that I am keeping it for the long term

I most recently moved from a Renault Megane Mk2, so the Skoda is positively luxurious. I had a Civic sport space ship edition even that had less toys than my rapid black edition. The car with the most toys I've had was a golf mk4 GT though the engine let that one down 2 litre FSI that spent more time with a mechanic than me, auto everything except gears, though the only superfluous thing i used were tunnel lights.
