Something to note. When fitting a towbar you can no longer tow a car

Featured Replies

Just fitted a oem towbar to my Octavia mk3 and when removing the cross brace to make room for the towbar assembly I noticed the towbar doesn't have the big screw that the towing eye screws into. If you didn't know this you spend all day after removing the blanking plug in bumper trying to screw it in. Guess you just have to use the towbar it's self now I guess !!!.

Simply NOT clever

OK, OK,  I know many (most?) of us are blokes and reading manuals goes completely against the genetics but I'm going to say it anyway

on p225 on mine it does say.........

"On vehicles with a factory-fitted towing device, there is no mount for the screw-in towing eye behind the cap. Use the built-in detachable ball rod for towing.Towing the vehicle using the towing device is a viable alternative solution to using the towing eye.
If the towing device is removed completely, it must be replaced with the standard reinforcement of the rear bumper which is part of the mount for the towing eye" The detachable ball rod must always be in the vehicle so that it can be used for towing, if necessary.

RTFM? :tongueout:

Still NOT clever though - they have eye-mounts in tow-bar ironwork for other cars

I'd much rather just use the towbar to tow something anyway. Rather that fiddling removing bumper caps and screwing in the towing eye.

It is a bit odd why they didn't just include it on the towbar though. Perhaps a penny pinching exercise?

I have a towing bar as tow ropes are lethal and banned on motorways anyway.  Plus the bars take the strain and stop the towed car from running into you. Just checked mine and it doesn't fit around the neck of the tow ball so now redundant and new one needed. Oh hum

Can you get tow bar that have a proper towbar coupling? That would be a pretty safe way to tow.

Anyway... how often do we all actually tow another car? The last time I did it was around 2007 and I towed a friend in her Citroen Xantia 1.9D using my Felicia 1.3! It struggled a little.

Quite a few of them around like THESE

If you do a lot of towing though something like THIS makes it easier

I tried to tow a Getz using an Accord coupe.

The big Honda was fine, the Hyundai the towing eye kept popping out.

Ended up calling the mechanic who came out and tied the rope round the subframe and towed it with his Berlingo.
