Misfire loss of power

Featured Replies

Driving car yesterday and felt loss of power, EPC light and management light came on. Took down to local garage (not skoda dealership) and said that there was a misfire in cylinder 4, received phone call today to say that its not the spark plugs or coil pack. They done a compression test and said that cylinder 4 was down to 40 and the other 3 were 150-160.  Car is out of warranty now aswell. Anyone had similar problems and what was the diagnostic ? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Same thing happened to me for the first time a couple weeks back and then again a few days ago.

First time I had been driving about 10 miles when the I felt a loss of power and the EML light flashed for around 10 seconds,.  I slowed down to 50 MPH.  After a couple of minutes I went back to 70 MPH and same thing happened again.  I slowed again, until the light went off, then drove about 70 for 130 miles, without any issues.

Second time, I had drove about 65 miles, accelerating quickly numerous times to over take on the back roads, I got on the motor way, going about 75 mph and the EML light flashed for 10 seconds twice and then the EPC light came on.  At the nearest slip road I came off and stopped for 1 minute, started the car, and drove 100 miles at 70 MPH. without any problems.  Since I have drove about 200 miles without any lights, but just ordered a Torque Pro Elm 327 [ Android ONLY ] [ V1.5 ] OBDII OBD 2 , to see if i can read the fault.

I have saw a few posts on the forum but never seen a conclusion.

Car is a Skoda MKII 63 plate, with 40k miles.

Cheers.

Sorry missed this post as not in the Fabia Mk2 Section.

Sadly the issue is very common as you will see if you look at pinned threads at the top of the Fabia Mk2 Section on the forum.

sorry to hi jack this thread - so how much roughly is compression test, I'm gonna get a check done on my problem cylinder 3 that is chewing spark plugs. My tuning garage charges £40 per hour so will be getting done as part of service mot, oil change etc..

Why not buy a compression tester there like 15-20 quid and do it yourself mate?

I'm not that good at stuff like that I nearly wrecked the bulb holders changing light bulbs, changing those is about my limit! Lol. Will add compression test into my service list b4 doing any more mods.

Well I've got a compression tester and I'm gonna compression test mine soon because I get a little missfire when I'm on the motorway when I've been tootling for a while then floor it seems to be at the same stretch of motorway all the time very annoying , just may not be on the latest software so if you wanna swing by as you live near me I can compression test yours aswell and compare results

Piston melted in cylinder 4, no damage to cylinder luckily enough, timing chain was aslo loose, 2 of the valves weren't sitting right either

Current condition of my car

that sucks hope they find the cause of it

I had the same problem with a MK2 Escort many moons ago!

Cause was radiator core clogged and water channels in engine, No'4 cylinder furthest from water pump, last to be cooled.
