Heating

Featured Replies

Hi all a haven't been on in a while so a just got back from Blackpool and everything was fine for the first 19 miles.

then a noticed the heating went very cold on me feet the temp on the display was on 22.speed set at 1 so a played about with the speeds motor was working fine but the temperature was blowing cold until a put it up to 27 then it got hot and even hotter up to 30 a mean like a souner but anything under 27 it felt as if a was sitting in a fridge.

The engine temperature was perfect solid at 90degrees all the way. Has anyone experienced this problem before.

any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated thanks.

Experienced somthing similiar with a polo with climatic controls. A mixer flap motor. There is a sequence to excercise them if you search on here i think which may resolve otherwise a code read may report a fault. Havent done itysrlf but they can be painful to get at...

Thanks al try and find something on here cheers

Pressing AUTO and the upper left of the four distribution buttons cycles the flaps and heat output.

Yes, that's it. Try that, if they are faulty it may not resolve.

Thanks al try that cheers

Thanks to who replied a think it's sorted out by resetting the heating.

cheers Graeme

Sorry button combo is AUTO and lower left of 4 distribution buttons (face vent).

Not the upper left as I posted previously.

Hi a thought it was all fixed but a was WRONG.

So ave just flushed the heater matrix, radiator, individually.

The engine a didn't flush because a didn't want to take the thermostat out because a didn't have a new seal.

So am going to try the car and see what happens.

Am still open to more advice and help if possible.

Cheers

Well flushing the system didn't work any ideas anyone.

cheers

The system works by mixing cold and hot air sources so your results could be caused by a non operating mixer flap or a faulty temperature sensor. Because the mixing flap is shifting between fully hot and fully cold, my guess would be the output air temperature sensor.

It is possible to read all the sensors and flap setting by turning on the ignition whilst pressing two of the press buttons. I don't know which buttons to use on your car but look on YouTube for Climatronic problems on the Golf and there are many videos of how to do it. Just choose one for your model year and see if one of the sensors is not reading the set value.

Edit.

Here is an example from Romania but you get the idea.......

You could do with getting someone with vcds to scan the car and see what temperature each sensor is reading. Then see what each flap is doing and do a basic reset to see if that works.

Nice reply a have VCDS but don't no how to do the reset on what your suggesting am not that clever with computers lol.

 Thanks

I've a similar issue,  the internal air is always cold, apart from when it's at the max setting.   I'm going to try cycling the flaps, but I feel its the thermocouple at fault here.

I've got a Facelifted Mk2,  does anyone know the link to the replacement thermocouple/temperature sensor?

Whats a thermocouple anyone

Thermocouple is a Temperature Sensor, In my work we more often refer to thermocouples than temperature sensors.  Sorry If I've caused any confusion

A don't suppose you no were it is and how to test it by any chance

The link suggested by pikpilot seems to have a tutorial to see what values the sensor is outputting,  i might have a look tonight and see if I can get anything from it.

This Post;

Also suggests the sensors may come loose, and be out of place,  It's probably worth removing some trim and seeing if things are dangling out of place at all.

Thanks all not to sure how to remove the top box to see if any sensors have come undone.

Them sensor readings would would be handy just to check thanks.

Well what can a say big thanks to all who replied.

The sensor had fell out of the air ducting under the top storage compartment replaced back in and alls fixed now.

 Thanks Graeme

Well put sensor back in to the air duckting and all was well for about half a day back to normal blowing cold air when the temperature digital display says 22 it's like the air con is on it's FREEZING.

sorry for being a pain any ideas please a need this sorted before the winter.

What a don't understand is everything works fine until the engine is at full temperature then after say 10 minutes of driving it just cools down slowly until it gets absolutely freezing blowing freezing air through the vents just don't understand how or why this happens.

 Thanks Graeme

As you say, your car starts to blow cold heat after running for a while. Please when this happens try to check your coolant expansion tank (When your car has cooled down, but this can also be done while it is at operating temperature, but you need to be very careful, because the coolant can bubble out and burn you).

If there is a lot of air coming out when you car is cooled down, you might have blown head gasket, block or some other related issues.

This was issue for my heat loss, blown head gasket, which let air into the cooling system. Because the heater core matrix is at highest point, the air accumulates there and then you lose the heat.

The sunlight and interior temperature sensors are located at top centre of dash, in front of storage compartment and in center of middle fan speed dial.

Make sure nothing is obstructing and/or check them.

How can a check if it's 1 or 2 of the sensors on the dash both of them are not obstructed.

How can a find out how to test and check all of the sensors using VCDS to narrow it down.

 Thanks

a dont think the head gasket has gone no loss of power or oil in the water expansion tank.

 Thanks

I wouldn't think so,  as he said that his heater works completely fine when the dial is set to maximum.

Taximan, it seems we're at roughly the same point,  my air is always cold except for when my heating is on maximum,  to me this sound consistent with a dodgy thermocouple,  however I tink the one which has the issues is behind the Bolero, and currently I don't have the right screwdriver to remove it. I'm going to check back there that the sensor is correctly fitted,  and afterwards I'll try and decipher the readings from the Climate Controls diagnostic mode.
