Panoramic roof screen has a mind of its own

Featured Replies

Hello all, about a year ago I bought a 2012 Superb Elegance 3.6 FSI 4x4.  It's been great, but there's a lot of automatically operated stuff to get ones head around.

I still can't work out the panoramic roof screen, despite reading the manual.  I very rarely close it, but often when I get in the car it's already closed.  How does it do this?  It's not from holding door closed on the key fob, because that would fold the mirrors in too.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Rain, time or security sensor is my guess which are all I believe in the manual.

Thanks for your reply Danny.  I read the manual, which isn't very well written and I couldn't find mention of any of these things.

Basically:

- The sunroof and windows will close if the rain sensor detects rain while the car is off and locked.

- This detection starts within about 5 minutes of the car being locked.

- If after 12 hours, the windows and sunroof are still open, even if no rain has been detected, the sunroof and windows will close.

- The closing of the sunroof sliding panel (automatically) will also close the sunscreen.

Someone else may need to check me on the "off and locked".  As I park my car outside, it's never unlocked.  Someone who leaves their car inside a garage unlocked might comment that it still closes.

It was on page 27 of the manual, where it talks about the menu settings.  Not the most logical place.  I'm one of those weirdos who read the manuals from cover to cover.

I have this Rain closing feature listed in my setup menu and it allows me to check it but when I return to the setup menu the check has disappeared and my windows don't automatically close when raining and car locked.  I do have rain sensitive wipers and they work as expected.  Is there something else which needs to be setup for this to work?

Actually that's not the full story, it seems if I check the box then back out of setup the function works.  But each time I enter setup this function is immediately un-checked.  So if I want this function I need to make sure that any time I go into Setup I re-check the box.

Is this normal?

Hello, to be clear, I'm not talking about the sunroof.  I'm talking about the sunscreen that slides below the sunroof.  This closes sometimes at night, sometimes at day when I leave the car, automatically.  I like this function and would like to to close all the time when I leave the car, but I can't find out how to do this.

It's unlikely the rain sensor, because it happens overnight when the car is parked in a dry garage and I never leave the car with the windows or sunroof open.

even a light dew forming on the screen will close the blind and or windows/sunroof.

I know ofno way to auto close the blind when you leave the car but you could build a relay onto the switch contacts if you desperately wanted this. could also be used to fold the mirrors which others have wanted.

I think OP wants to stop it closing or at least understand why it does close, rather than make it close.  Maybe i didn't understand the question.

I took " I like this function and would like to to close all the time when I leave the car" to mean "IT to close all the time"

Can be difficult when people don't proof read or spell check but I am quite confident.

I was just grateful to read a post that didn't start "SO" lol

Good point.  I was reading the first post not so much the later one.

Don't get me started on "So", never mind posts, some people can't start a sentence without it.  I walk away from them when I can (as I do with "like" and AQI).

Yes, see the line in my response:

"- The closing of the sunroof sliding panel (automatically) will also close the sunscreen."

The same triggers to close the sunroof glass sliding panel (i.e. rain, 12 hours) will close the sunscreen/sunblind.  There is no built-in way in the CECM to automatically close the sunscreen/sunblind on locking the car.  It will close 12 hours after the car has been locked.

@wokwon, that's it!  It's the 12 hour thing that closes the roof, or sometimes it closes in a shorter time if I've parked somewhere outside and there's been any moisture on the windscreen.

It doesn't bother me enough to follow @superbdreams' suggestion.  I'm just happy to know why the thing is and isn't closing.

Thanks for all your suggestions and apologies for the earlier typo.
