My car has arrived !!

Featured Replies

Just received a voice mail saying that my car has arrived at the dealers. My registration begins HY06 (so I am a Y0B  )

Anyway, its 18 days early  What do I do? When I ordered it I was told the dealer only has 7 days to pay for it and i said it has to be an 06 so I'll pay for it if it comes in early. I'm worried about paying for it now and not taking delivery until March 1st. What happens if it gets trashed in between now and then?

It wont - believe it or not, Skoda dealers wont find the Fabia hard to resist - they'll be to busy thrashing new Octavia VRS's ;)

Probably best to give the dealers a ring and ask what the situation is. Is the car actually ready, or are they just saying it's arrived to be PDI'd and prepped?

Oh and sort out yer avatar :P:rofl:

Chris

It's probably in early so they can fit the flotation devices and life jackets.

The rest of Feb is going to drag sooooooooo much. :D:thumbup:

Go and drool over it a bit. ;) Make a note of the mileage at the same time. ;)

EDIT: MY AVATAR HAS REAPPEARED! :woohoo:

Whoa! If Velma's anything like Herbie, she won't let you take early delivery. Better watch your step methinks... :D

Seriously though, I know nothing, but I'd make sure I had whatever assurances I wanted in writing that were taken in as part of an agreement for making payment - i.e. something which would stand up if I had to sue them. Whilst suing is unlikely, you have a fallback position, but it's mainly to make them think further than the "don't worry love/madam" automatic response.

That said, I seem to recall that you are buying from that dealer because you have confidence in them, so it's not clear to me what your worries are - but, as I know nothing, it probably wouldn't be clear to me

Good thinking Mo, I definetely need for feel reassured that if the worst happened and it was damaged that they would be liable rather than my tough luck, left at owners risk etc etc. As I won't be insuring it until march 1st

Velma is in need of a good wash and wax ready to stun her new owners

You also got me thinking, should I start a new thread........

'Name my new VRS'

lol-yeah you should!! everyone on here knows the name of your car, so we should all find a suitable one!

Dont make payment until you take delivery, and only take delivery upon the agreed date, unless you want to take it before then.

What ever payment agreement the dealer has with Skoda UK has nothing to do with you.

Any damaged cause between now and the pick up date is down the the dealer to fix/repair.

Most important check the car 100% before you take delivery, check every panel for damage/marks etc. if there is any get it in writing that they will fix it, do not accept their "word" found out the hard way with Peugeot

Well you've had Velma now, so how about Louise ;)

I have to pay for it before as I agreed to it and it's on the invoice :thumbdwn:

I guess I just have to hope that everything is hunky dory when I pick up.

I dont see the problem with collecting the car early ?

Indeed. Still have a childhood memory of Dad having one of the brand new shape Veedub passat's on his drive, 2 weeks before he was able to drive it. It was just a "GL" on a F plate, but we loads of people walk over and ask about it as it was one of the new shape. Created quite a stir and felt a bit cool to have a brand new car on the drive. Almost like a showroom. :D

Thinking about it now, I wonder if it was insured at the time? It can't have been taxed for that fortnight? Hmmmm. It was at least garaged.

I have been informed that Fabia VRS lead times have been reduced. People that have ordered for March 1st will most likely get them 2 weeks earlier.

Just from the grape vine thats all.........

I don't see that "paying for it beforehand" is in itself a problem - i.e. you are paying for a perfect car.

I personally see nothing in that which reduces your rights to receiving the perfect car you are paying for.If it's not perfect, then warranties as a minimum would kick in first methinks.

I suspect the garage would be embarrassed if it's not perfect, so why not ring and emphasise how much you are looking forward to receiving your brand new perfect car?

Knowing nothing, it's just another thought...

Saved me typing it!!

Stick to your guns and the original deal you discussed.

It's not unusual for people to pay before collecting, especially if your looking to get it 1st of March - saves a lot of hassle on the day, we quite often have people coming to pick there car up - only to fall foul of a bank security check throwing them a curve ball question and failing! -- how gutting would that be.

At least your getting yours for the 1st -- I'll be lucky to see mine before the 20th March :(

I'm paying for my car via my debit card so I'm not anticipating any problems with the bank. I feel a little more relaxed about paying for it before hand, I will get something in writing about condition at the time etc. I thought you werent allowed to take delivery of an 06 before march 1st.

Does anyone know if it's actually legal to have other writing on the reg plate rather than where it was registered?

Paying via debit card is the way most people do it -- however it does not rule out a security check - as it will be an unusual transaction - ring the bank beforehand and inform them when and how much - your much less likely to have a problem.

Hi Pixi

Will you be changing your avatar again, to "06 06" this time, as a hint soon? ;)

Mo

Telling the bank makes no difference IMHO - they will ring the dealer and get them to pass the phone through to you. Then you will end up going through a bunch of security questions to ID you, after which you will end up mentioning the exact amount your are withdrawing for the purchase. Then they'll let the transaction go through.

The skoda dealer said this happened about 90% of the time and they just expect it, they actually informed me it probably would happen before visiting. The bank wouldn't take anything down on paper before that time (I did try to get that done) as the team that deals with security is a separate team from the branch team...

It was important to me to get my increased insurance running from the point at which I picked the car up, being my responsibility thenceforward and probably being outside my current policy, fully comp-wise.

As I go through a broker, that wasn't a problem as they were standing by. Might be worth finding out about insurance beforehand though...

I have just returned the dealers call and there was no mention of paying for the car beforehand

He said, 'See you about midday on the 1rst'

Me?, I kept me mouth shut;)
