light upgrades

Featured Replies

hello everyone I'm new to skoda and have recently purchased a Octavia vrs estate in black. it's a nice car but i want to make it look better. I'm not keen in the old fashioned looking rear light units. I would like advice or tips on which light housings can be installed. also maybe the front to. thanku. I think I want everything to be Led n have the daytime lights built into the headlamps etc

The MK2 Octavia came over ten years ago so it's never going to look 'modern' I'm afraid...

About the only OEM change you could make is FL rear lights. They look similar but don't have the reflector in the centre giving a 'cleaner' look. Should be fine for MOT's as you also have rear reflectors on the bumper.

There are aftermarket options, a couple of examples being:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231701486601 <-- headlights, make sure they are RHD and decent quality

https://www.dectane.de/LITEC-Rueckleuchten/LITEC-SKODA/LITEC-SKODA-OCTAVIA/LITEC-Octavia-1Z-Combi/ <-- tail lights, make sure you get estate/combi versions

The aftermarket options aren't to my taste but I hope that gives you some options or ideas :)

The left tail light looks to be a stock FL item.

The right tail light looks like it's been heavily tinted. You can either do it yourself with film/spray of get a professional to do it. Don't go too dark otherwise anyone behind you won't see your tail/brake lights.

You can also get flyeye film to give a tinted look but let more light through.

Which ones?

The FL style are easily found on eBay at £30-£50 per side.

The Dectane versions are closer to £250 for a pair from amazon.

If buying online be careful as there are different versions for the hatchback and estate. There are also considerations to be made on the rear foglight configuration (right-hand vs. left-hand drive).

I've updated Brimma's thread linked above.

I think the LHD/RHD thing won't affect them - certainly my LHD European car has the option to use left (RHD offside) or both rear fogs via VCDS

I think the cars are configured in software depending on the market they operate...

Certainly when I was looking for and purchasing the Dectane units the issue of left or right hand drive never came up

But the hatch and estate versions are different shapes for sure :)

So where are all the bits and pieces you had to remove just to get the old cluster out? ;)

You might be surprised. There is a flap of carpet to open from inside the boot, the bulb holder to unclip from the cluster and the electrical feed to unclip from the bulb holder, then its four 8mm bolts to undo (two of which are bit fiddly due to access) - don't drop them either or they're lost forever!

Once these are off the cluster simply pulls off the car, once it's free (the foam weather seal can stick to the bodywork) and the cluster is an inch or two off the car then you need to pull out the 2x W3W bulbs and bulb holders and voila, it's off.

I'd guess 10 minutes per side the first time, then 5 minutes or less from then on!
