Looking at a pristine Golf 1.6 SE With full electric pack in Flash Red. Its 1999 (T) with FSH and one owner. 27,000 Miles

Going for £4.495 sound a good deal, any advice? Things to look out for?

Sorry to here about 12 volt Richard. Are you going to remove the mods. sat nav etc, and dont forget to not accept the first insurance offer. Maybe that way you could buy another furby. You may be able to fina a 1.9TDi for the price of the golf.

Yup sat-nav etc all removed., insurance wise i was offered a very good deal as the inspector happened to drive an octavia but that aside i took out GAP insurance when i got 12Volt so not fussed what NU give me... will still end up with what I paid for car year ago.

Had a look for furbys and damn skodas hold their prices way to well... so decided to llok at golfs as I can buy older with higher spec equipment but still have a reasonable insurance at 18. Also the few thousand I have left from buying an older car means I can do it up with a few bits and insure it.

The 1.6 in the Golf can be a bit guttless to say the least, may be worth trying to track down a 1.9TDi - I'd imagine you'd only be looking at a

Don't worry about slightly higher mileage on a diesel. ;) As long as the service history is there to back it up. :)

Its not so much the engine i worry about i know they will last for hundreds of thousands of miles with diesel its just the general wear and tear of high mileage cars.

Fair enough - you wanna see the state of my interior at the moment then. :D Testimony to 70k miles of wear & tear. :D

Hoping for some new upholstery soon so I can burn my old seats. ;)

I wouldnt be concerned either, my mondeo for example is just short of 150,000 miles and the leather interior is like new with no seat wear at all.

Sorry to hear about your car Richard. They get to be part of the family and when you sell or get rid it's like having an arm ripped off. All that hard work. I'm sure you will find just the right one......Andy

There is a 2 litre octy elegance on ebay 17k miles on a 52 plate fro 5.5k . Have alook

Its a 1.8T that one you mention on eBay (this one). Looks nice though...

Do you want anything that big though Richard?

Steve

The hard work is the annoying thing haddnt washed it since IOW meet in jan... then washed it and waxed it night before the crash.

Its like u said the hard work thats the killer, get to the point when u think why do i bother, hence looking for an older car now.

Good lad, you know it makes sense  Think about the remap potential, as well as the mpg

Edit: PS W8 unit ordered, should be fitting next week

yeah sorry i didnt manage to get piccys... had to rip it all out in a hurry before care was collected. Looks like im selling my night vision as next one will have sunroof now lol! So i need to get one with sunroof switch i think.

I bought a 1.6se Golf new when the mkiv's were first released, although a decent car I switched to diesel and I'd never go back to petrol.

Diesel is the way to go, more MPG, holds it's value, longer range on a tank, mid range punch, the car will speak for itself.

Oh, you will need a new console for the sunroof/reading lights, the bonus is the whole switch lights up as well as the light buttons and looks pretty damn smart at night.
