Wingmirror Passanger side doesn't work and also Wing mirrors do not heat up

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I helped one of my friends to buy a car. it was Skoda Fabia (MPV) 1.2(petrol). His left side wing mirror doesn't work with the inside controller but driver side works fine..and also none of them heats up once the control knob put into heating position. we tried another similar car and strangely that car has the similar problem as well.  could anyone tell me what could possibly be the faulty so we can fix it. Thanks in advance.

How are you trying to operate the heating elements, think they only come on with the heated rear window and mirror selector switch in heating position.

So, what you r saying is heating symbol on wing mirror controller knob is just for rear windows only...we thought it was for wing mirror like my octavia. well what about the passenger side wing mirror control. why it doesn't work with controller knob? any idea?

usually the mirrors heat up once the switch is in the correct, forward position. They work independently from the heated rear window. I have used my mirrors regularly and rarely need to use the heated rear window.

Assuming you are referring to electric mirrors, they often fail due to the small wires breaking inside the door bellows, where you open and shut the door. They are quite thin and often fracture.

Have a similar issue on my monte carlo (2012) Driver's side doesn't heat but passenger side does

Its very strange, isn't it! Why only driver side works not the other side..did anyone had the similar problem and fixed it?

I know the previous owner had bashed the driver's side mirror before I bought the car through a dealer and that it was missing some of the trim, so I would assume the reason mine doesn't work on the driver's side is down to that. But I would like to know if there is a reasonable solution to this problem to save me having to wipe it with a cloth on a dewy/frosty morning leaving smear marks on it lol

I have problem with passenger side mirror heating. The problem is that there is all the time battery voltage even when switch is off and ignition key away. And that have probably caused mirror heating to fail, mirror heating wire is burned through. I checked also driver side and this is working fine. Voltage will apply only when engine running and switch is turned to heating mode as it should be. Drivers side heating wire resistance is 5 ohm and passengers side infinite as it should be because continuous power has burned it. Question is where this power is applied to mirrors from cause to drivers side is ok but to passengers side not. Is there relay or something that supply separately positive wires to mirrors that one contact is burned together? Or is there some block somewhere which is controlled by switch and this block is faulty causing continuous power in any case to passenger side mirror heating?

Have you looked inside the casing to see if the owner refitted the wrong glass/ Might have saved a few quid by fitting unheated mirror glass or even failed to connect the wires to the new glass's element! Two tiny wires inside the mirror casing fit to the pins on the back of the heated element, attached to the mirror back so if they are not connected or if the glass has no element, theres the issue. Carparts4less/eurocarparts will sell you a new heated mirror glass for around £30, perhaps less with a code. Skoda will charge around £40 plus a few pee for a genuine, heated element.

Skoda service suggested to check rubber duct between chassis and the door it might be that wire isolations there are failed and melted together

Yeah, thats the rubber bellows I referred to in my earlier reply... They are VERY prone to snapping on both mirrors and windows! Take a good look to see all wires are intact or if any are broken as it can often be multi wires that are snapped or fractured.
