Pulsing noise at idle

Featured Replies

My Octavia is making what I can only describe as a pulsing noise at idle. I have turned off the air con in case it was the compresser. I can only here it when sitting in the cabin but it sounds like it is coming from the engine bay but I can't hear it when I go out and lift the bonnet.

Any suggestions?

Fuel pumps

Thanks never thought of that, where are they located?

Had an other listen can't hear the noise underneath car so don't think it is fuel pumps. Definitely coming from behind the dash. It maybe climate control related as I turned the temp all the way to low and it stopped.

Looks like it will have to go in

Blocked pollen filter or aircon gas low.

There is a background kind of low pitch squeaking noise the aircon fan makes.

I've noticed it at idle, and if you turn the system off it stops.

The Octavia isnt a Rolls Royce, so I doubt Skoda will be interested in fixing it, just have the radio on so you don't notice it.

Radio has to be turned up a fair bit to drown it out

Is it a dsg? I had exactly the same issue and it was my clutch. Common issue on the 7 speed dsg as it is a dry clutch.

A petrol internal combustion engine.  4 pistons going up and down, an oil pump, a water pump operating it would be a worry if no noise at idle

you would need to go for a hearing check.

lol :-) however I probably should have stated at the beginning that this noise in question was intermittent and has now ceased probably due to a change in the weather.
