Switching off air conditioning

Featured Replies

The car air conditioning unit is faulty and I cannot switch it off. Getting hot air blowing in from the air vent all the time. In this hot weather it is quite unbearable.

I am not too bother about having air conditioning as I have heard they are thirsty on petrol.

What would be the easiest solution to this problem?

You will probably find it's not the Aircon that's faulty, it's probably the Blower Motor Resistor that's failed, common fault.

Sounds more like the temperature control flap has got stuck in the hot position.

Thank you for your reply mogwye. The fan dial is working through the power range so I do not think it is the blower motor.

Temperature control flap could be stuck but I just tried it with the car from cold, engine not started (Have not been driven for 24 hours) and the air coming through the air vent is still quite warm.

I never had an air con car before and does not know what to expect. I toggle the air con button and the recirculate button and I cannot tell if the unit is on or off or dead .

I am thinking of removing the air con fuse F3 or should it be F12 or both as a dirty fix. It is mentioned in the link below.

Would it kill the fan and have other unexpected consequence for safe driving?

Dude, aircon CHILLS the cabin air, it doesn't heat it up, it's a miniature refrigeration system.

Or a huge refrigeration system in comparison to a domestic fridge :D

I guess, I was thinking of static air-con units outside offices rather than a domestic fridge.

I must revisit the user manual tomorrow. i thought the air con system can spew out hot and cold air inorder to maintain the cabin temperature at a comfortable level.

The climate control can spew out a desired temperature decided by what cabin temperature is trying to be achieved. It does this by diverting some of the air from the air conditioners evaporator through the heater matrix.

It mixes the refrigerated air to maintain the desired temperature, however if the cabin is cooler than the ambient air outside then the heater flap will adjust to mix hot air from the heater matrix and shut down the compressor, yours cannot do this because the heater flap is stuck on hot.
