ASUS MB & secure boot.

Featured Replies

Help- I'm trying to get all my OS onto self booting USB sticks. But my Asus MB tells me that it doesn't recognise the stick, with a message that I can disable secure boot, or add keys to my USB stick. Problem is that I can disable secure boot, but might forget to enable it, so for me it would be easier to add the keys to a stick so that I can install from a USB . Anyone help in how to add keys to a stick /

This any help?

Seen that .It's easy to delete the secure boot keys, but I'm bothered about that ,as they are there for a reason, i.e to stop unauthorised stuff running at boot, I'd prefer to keep them and find some way ( as hinted at in Asus bios) to insert the keys into any USB drives I make bootable. What I can't understand is that W10 came as an ISO, and I made a bootable DVD from the iso ,and that boots without problems. I've tried Rufus & making a bootable USB from the w10 ISO, without any joy. Looks like it's time to ask Asus customer services.

You have to format the drives as GPT or it won't work?

According to information from Asus Tech , W7 is a pain to do , but W10 can be done using the Windows media creation tool . Ah ,well it was a nice idea as I've had DVD go funny if sat around for any length of time. Plan B- kit my spare HDD out with an OS and software to burn DVD , and keep it on a shelf when not in use .

From what I read on net , for W7, keys have to be deleted, but one error message on BIOS suggests that the keys can be inserted on a USB to get round the problem.

I had this problem when last motherboard went down and my copy of W7 on a bootable USB wouldn't work.

Had more replies from Asus Tech support. They say it's not the Mobo , but windows. Strange in that I had W7 on a self booting USB stick on the last two Mobo and it worked on them. In fact, I've been running W7 since the first version and it always booted from my USB.
