1.6 tdi engine differences

Featured Replies

Good evening gents,

Would anybody know where can I find list of all engines for Octavia Mk3? I`m looking on Autotrader and two identical cars seem to have different engine specs. Both are 15 plate, both 1.6 TDI CR SE DSG 5dr.

Thank you!

Hello, the 1.6TDI did have a modest increase from around mid 2015 from 105 to 110ps. I have a 110ps and providing I don't thrash it, it easily returns 60+ mpg. If I was you, I'd definitely go for the bigger power. Not sure why there was a power increase as the torque figures are the same. Might be something to do with Euro6?

Both are first registered as 15 plates, when where they built though.

Must have changed the specs midway through that period?

60 mpg city driving or motorway?

V5 says 77kw, but Autotrader by number plate says its 109 bhp model (should be 81kw then on V5 ?). I have VIN number, anybody can check out? Built May 2015.

That includes a mixed 14 mile drive to work including about 9 miles on a motorway. I achieve about 500 miles on average on a tank

I tried both engines 105 and 110 HP no difference in power trust me!

On 110 version torque kicks in a bit earlier, gives feeling of a bit more jumpy engine/car at lower gears. I have 110 and my friend has 105 and he's the one noticing it. 1.6 105bhp driving experience is more like old 1.9 105 bhp TDI's ...

Is the 15 plate with 110 bhp an greenline? I think 110 version was in general (for all models) released with MY2016, but for greenlines earlier.

Big difference is that the Dirty Diesels are not even worth having even as a Taxi or Airport Transport any more in the UK.

& if you do need one for towing get some VW Group 2.0TDI with SCR not a 1.6TDI.

Doh,

My stupid, i thought i was posting in the 'Which to get, 1.6 or 2.0 TDI thread.... Sorry.

Why not? It has very low emissions, 99 grams.

Is it, as tested inside a temperature controlled building on a rolling road and with a given weight with nobody but a driver in, diesel in the engine oil and tyre pumped up,

and no regens happening.

Kiddology.

Interesting point; a 2013 1.6TDi CR Elegance is listed as having 99g/km CO2 emisions, is £0 rated for road tax and yet is not ULEZ exempt. Only cars post 2015 are ULEZ exempt despite many of those I have seen having the same emissions figures. Anybody got any idea why?

Euro5 diesels got a bad reputation for NOx emissions for some reason...

NOx is a problem for city-living/working people's health, COisn't. I suspect that is what this decision was made on.

Thanks. So presumably engines manufactued from 2015 have lower NOx emisions than those from before. Interesting stuff.

Euro 6 emissions standard from Sept 2015 allows 0.08g/km of NOx, Euro 5 before that was 0.18g, more than twice as much.

But the real issue was that VW group and others cheated the system with 'test sensing' or other dodgy software which produced cars that appeared to meet the Euro 5 standards when tested in the lab, but emitted massively more than the limits in the real world (up to 40 times as much).

Thanks for the extra info.

Following a bit of surfing I found the detailed Euro 5B and Euro 6 emissions online (where I saw where the NOx levels dropped in Euro 6); I contacted Skoda UK customer services (out of a sense of mischief) and asked them if they had the official figures for the emissions of the 1.6tdi engine of 2013 compared with 2015. You could have heard a pin drop! It was suggested that I should speak to a Skoda retailer as only they would be able to give me this information :D. Yeah, right! That was a sidestep worthy of a bullfighter. I suspect that they thought I was some reporter trying to stir up the system cheating story.

Might go and torment a Skoda retailer later!
