Hi all. Went to skoda yesterday and I'm having an oil consumption test this week, I've been told to drive at least 300 miles before I bring it back. I ripped shreds off the sales man. The manager had to come over and help him out. I was all ready armed with the information you had all given me, Thanks a lot :-) 

I had the chief macanic out and quizzed him aswell 

 He said if the oil consumption is outside the paramilitaries it will need new piston rings. I then collared the warranty man, who didn't know what the hell hit him. He replied by saying your totally covered.

Any other advice is greatly received 

 

So in short i'm covered,  I will keep you all updated. Have a good weekend all!

There are links to the TPIs for the 1.8tsi excessive oil consumption, in various threads in this forum. AFAIR the fix is either i) a new engine, or ii) revised pistons, conrod and rings.  Just replacing the rings on the premodified engines will not solve it. Just keep that in mind once the consumption test is complete, if the consumption test breaches thresholds and discussion turns to remedies. They, the Skoda dealer "should" be accross all the information and resolution per the TPIs. 

Please post the copy of the Oil Consumption test results.  Be sure to get it, Miles at start, finish and oil weight start, finish.

 

The Engine oil weighs 857 grams a litre.  (not 1000 grams...)

So once they change the oil and filter and get the engine to temperature it gets drained and weighed, then put back in.

The test was 300km, which was rubbish.

Then when mileage drive, oil to operating temperature, drained and weighed.

 

Maybe they are doing a Diagnostic Check or a make it up as they go along one.

A sealing the Filler Cap and Dipstick check is OK for a Free Check, but not accurate.

 

0.5litres / 1000km oil use,

is not the 'within tolerances' Just the VW Figure used on all Engines 3,4,5,6,8,12, Petrol / Diesel /LPG/ 44kw up....
