duplex phone numbers

Featured Replies

I know little about mobile phones but I have an android one and I have a number of contacts, some only have mobile numbers, some multiple numbers.

When using hands free, paired via BT, in the car, the mobile numbers showup twice. So if a contact only has a mobile number associated with it, the car shows two numbers, both the same.

Not a major issue but annoying, so why does it occur and how do I get rid of it.

On the phone in the contact page under details, it has a red handset symbol and the number and below that are 3 green dots with a handset icon inside (which may be associated with WhatsApp). Is this why the number is duplicating ?

What you really need to do is bite the bullet and get them all sorted and saved to ONLY Google and that way all your devices will sync up correctly and any new ones will be so much easier to configure.

Delete the BT pairing in the car. As John says, clean the contacts up, have them just saved on one account e.g. Outlook or Google gmail.  Check they view correctly on your mobile, then re-sync to the car.

All the car does is sync your contacts view from the mobile, so if you have duplicates in that, they will show in the car. In Android you can set which contacts show on your contacts page.

@ukgnome are you saying the duplicates appear if a contact only has one number associated with it? Is it okay if there are two or more numbers?

I also have an Android phone (HTC), I can't say I've ever noticed this problem but I will check later and report back...

@ukgnome I've now checked a random selection of my contacts and they are exactly as you describe, all the 'mobile' numbers are duplicated? In truth this doesn't cause me a problem because I very rarely use the cars contact list, 9 times out of 10 I ring one of my 'Favourites', or a recent number in which case I quickly scroll through the list using the scroll wheel on the steering wheel.

Bottom line is, mine is exactly the same as yours :)

All my contacts, to the best of my knowledge (which is miniscule with regards to mobile phones) are tidied up.

It only becomes an issue as I use the voice command to select and dial and so rather than kust the command 'phone .....' I have a conversation with the car regarding the contact having more than one number, even thought the number is a duplicate.

It is a little odd that this happens? On my phone there are no duplicates and everything is set up as it should be but when it synchronises with the car, the same contacts on the car contain duplicate mobile numbers... :)

Notice this happens if you have more than one phone paired? the car shows what is in the memory of the head unit as well as what is in the phone memory. I've learned to live with it.

Had this same issue myself, sometime two or three of the same contact showing. It's because you might have your contacts stored on your SIM card and phone memory so it duplicates them on your Columbus. I've solved the problem by deleting my contacts from my SIM (take a back up first) and now only have my contacts listed on my phone. Then update your Columbus phone list and there should now be only one of each contact shown. Just remember to periodically back up your phone contact list somewhere. Good luck

It's far, far easier to have them stored on such a Google and that takes care of both situations and syncs perfectly.
