Just bought a 17 plate Octavia estate 1.4 TSI SEL.   I was surprised to find that in the manual and in the download manual of 348 pages there is not a single word regarding the inputting of post codes either by voice or manually. Yes I can do it as I had a previous model.  But it does not easily pick up what post codes are being said when using voice, it seems to prefer certain letters said and struggles with others. In addition it is very difficult to get the full post code in manually if at all, I assume all 6 are possible.  But plug into smart link with a £150 mobile and connect up to Google maps it becomes much easier, and the phone hears every word.  Anybody else having problems? It is the Amundsen set up.

Normally with the Amundsen you select town and when the next screen appears the postcode option is in the lower left of the screen. I enter the post code without any spaces without a problem, I've not tried voice.

 

Voice works but is terribly difficult to get it to work, dont try it on journeys of less than about 2 hours, you will be at your destination before you have successfully entered the postcode by voice, i have only succeeded a couple of times!

I have never known any car voice control that works at all.

Voice recognition on mobile device has improved conciderably over the last years but this works best when connected to the internet where the heavy processing, learning & constant updates are handled by the server.

However, its still pretty poor when your accent doesn't match a regional standard known by the system....

Like when I try to speak french with an English accent....

Having done some more research on the 2017 Amundsen in the Octavia to apply all 6 digits manually you have to, after pressing the "new destination button" press the triangle shaped symbol at the top of the screen this reverts the system to the previous model, you can then add all six digits of the post code. It works honest guv
