ABS fault Skoda Fabia mk1

Featured Replies

I have an ABS and hand brake error-light showing allong with three strong beeps when starting the car. I have measured the 4 abs-sensors on each weel and one of them had a completley different value. We have now had this one changed to a new one. But the error remains. I have then tried to drive a for couple of miles and have also tried to unplug the battery for appr. 20 mins. But the error is still showing. I wonder if the error will dissapear by itself if the error is repaired or do I have to erase the error code with a tool (that I don´t have). I thought that the "ELM327 WiFi" and an app in iPhone could read and erase the ABS errors, but it can´t read anything.

If you have a laptop, VCDS lite is reliabale, will allow you to remove codes, and is free apart from buying a good quality OCB2 to USB cable.

As to the ABS fault itself, it may not be where you thought it was; Furbies have been known to have ABS faults caused by water ingress to the cable run under the RH rear door rather than just sensors.

Ok, I have read about VCDS lite but I thought that I have to buy a expensive cable from them. Can I ask You for a good buy of a cable that will work from Ebay?

Hi @wertok I downloaded VCDS lite and bought this cable two weeks ago :- http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VAGUSB_16.html#product_information which worked a treat :-)

I didn't need either VCDS Lite or the cable to clear the ABS warning light, but they allowed me to diagnose which sensor/wiring was causing the problem.

Thank you. But It seems that they don't deliver to Sweden :-(

@wertok - I can't help with "being in Sweden" because I'm not, but any good quality cable with well soldered joints and the right pin-outs will do. Typically a decent cable will cost a bit less than a UK dealer will charge for one diagnostics session, to give you some sort of idea for a price point.

Just an update. I managed to get my hands on a reader and the error code was: 01200 then I checked "everything" including the 40A fuse on the battery and it was ok. Hours later I decided to look at that fuse once again and this time I unscrewed the cable on both sides and put it back again and now everthing is ok. Hope it stays this way.

Thanks everyone for guidance!

@wertok Did it stay that way :)

No. It was ok 2-3 days but now it's back. Trying to figure out what makes error code 1200 mean in real life. I have measured on the ABS module and it has power.

Which sensor was it that you replaced?

If it was one of the rear ones, check whether the rear door on that side is leaking. Do this by looking for small puddles of water on the bottom rubber of the door entrance after you open that door after rain.

Have a look at garibaldy's thread (from about 1/4 of the way down that page) to see why I'm suggesting this.

It was rear left and I saw that thread and also looked at those wires. It was all dry and fine! I've measured and the connection is ok from ABS-module to all 4 wheel speed sensors. But thanks anyway!

Anyone who knows if a broken wheel speed sensor can break the ABS module? I do think that it's the module now but I also think its strange that both sensor and module goes at the same time but when I think about it it sounds that maybe the broken sensor can do this to the module.

I'd be massively surprised if that could happen.
