Fabia 1.0 TSi 110 DSG real-world economy?

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of buying a new Fabia with the 1.0 TSI 110bhp petrol engine and DSG box. Does anyone here have any feedback on the real-world average fuel consumption for this model, with either the standard wheels and tyres or the 15in low rolling-resistance ones, which boost consumption?

I've been put off diesel by the recent controversies and the fact that consumption figures have got a lot worse as a result of changes made to cut the NOx pollution, but I wonder whether small three-cylinder petrols that offer good consumption on paper might actually use a lot of fuel in real-world use because the engines get revved a lot to extract decent performance.

The 1.0TSI 110 is still new in the Fabia and I doubt many (if any) have been delivered. The 1.2TSI 110 in my Fabia Monte Carlo combi is giving about 48.4 miles per gallon (over the first 1900 miles). So the 1.0TSI should be very similar if not marginally better.

Edit to add: Also my Monte is a manual on 17in wheels so the DSG with more economical tyres should be better. The turbo only kicks in and tanks economy if you want to accelerate fast, if your slow and smooth then the turbo doesn't need to kick in and on a 40mph road, stick in in 5th and watch the instant MPG sit at a steady 65mpg.

Well, you could have a look - browse some forums - on the Seat Ibiza (or propperly also the VW Polo)  which have had the engine for a while.

My experience with the Ibiza is a better mileage, just about 5.4l/100 Kms, but I only do urban stop-and-go traffic with that car.

-and btw, I've got the 95 hp version.
