Mk1 vrs camshaft position sensor

Featured Replies

I'll start by saying I'm new here; A few weeks ago I was driving along in my car when out of nowhere it cut out and wouldn't fire at all, cranked fine but no firing.. was like that for weeks till I could get it back up north to where I live.. anyways.. Having a bit of a struggle, been trying for days now to get it running to no avail.. shown faultcode 19464 upper limit exceeded to what I can recall, picked up a new cam sensor and tried it was cranking and eventually fired, drove it and it died after a few minutes, managed to get it fired again and left it idling for 10 minutes before it completely cut out and won't fire again. When the new sensor was first put on there was black smoke coming from exhaust, assuming that was the fuel going through it.. now there's no smoke at all, I've back traced the loom to find nothing wrong with it but the cam sensor plug is showing 24-25v on the ignition side, 9v on the sender side and 060ohms on the 2k setting for the earth/ground.. I'm certain that it's the power that's being sent to and from the sensor plug as to why it won't fire, if not what else could it be? question is though why is it feeding so much power to the plug and how can I fix that part of it, I don't think the belt has slipped as it's solid and was done recently, used to fire up near enough instantly before the problem came about.. thanks in advance
