Octavia VRS Questions.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have had a look around but was a bit confused so apologies if I'm repeating something.

I'm planning on buying an Octavia vRS 2009/2010 model, which I believe is a Mk2 face-lift, however I've found a number of horror stories concerning engines eating themselves due to a timing/tensioner flaw. First off would this affect the car's I'm looking at - TFSI 2.0 with engines labelled TSI, dipstick on the left?

Would I be better off looking at a slightly older vRS with the previous engine?

I'm concerned as I tend to keep cars for a long time and this would be the main car in the house - replacing a 53 plate Vectra turbo that's been nigh-on bulletproof till now.

TIA

Buy the cr diesel

You could buy a TSI that has been sorted out with a timing chain / tensioner update.

Or you could buy a Dirty Diesel that might be OK because it has not had the VW Fix.

Maybe get it cheap and have it as a keeper and just pay extra if going into cities etc if the Govenment do bring in some penalty system to try getting them off the roads.

Maybe even get some scrappage payment if you buy a early Euro 5 emission one and still own it in another year or so.

The Octavia VRS TSI is a great car, I love mine. Why not do what I did, buy the car and because you are going to keep it for some time, have the timing tensioner and chains replaced with the latest ones. It may be £600 to do, but a wise preventative measure just in case.

All for preventative measures - £600 doesn't seem a big issue for a 8-9000 car, was being quoted north of £800 on the Vectra for chains and tensioner (cars worth half that now...). Where around the East Midlands would be good to get that sort of thing done?

Next question is, what are they like for tuning if I wanted a few extra horses, and who's best for that?

Had my tensioner and chains replaced by my local independent garage, who I have used for a number of years. Costs a fair bit more to have the same job done at a Skoda dealership. Hopefully somebody in your area will give you the heads up on a good garage. As for the best remap place, although mine is still standard, a lot of members here swear by Shark. Plenty of posts here on the subject if you use the search button.
