Getting to know the new fl Octavia

Featured Replies

Thought this might be a handy little thread for people feeling their way round the new Octavia for the first time to compare/share experiences and finds.

Ive looked at the puncture repair kit for first time today (didn't order spare wheel) and it all looked a bit bare in the polystyrene insert so checked manual to see what I should have, but depends on your configuration. I have no jack, crank or wheel wrench. Is this the normal set up as I don't need to change wheel in theory as I have the puncture repair kit? When inserting the puncture repair liquid in wheel surely you need move the wheel round (either on or off the vehicle) for it to cover the whole interior of wheel to work correctly. If your tyre is flat surely you need to jack it up for this to happen so not to risk damage of wheel and tyre driving it flat.

Maybe I'm over thinking it but never had the experience of this punture repair stuff. Looking at it now I think a spare wheel ordered would have been a wiser option. The puncture repair looks fiddley and awkward.

The puncture repair stuff has two major issues:

1) it only works with small punctures, anything like major sidewall damage is beyond its abilities.

2) once you've squirted the gunk into the tyre most places will not repair the tyre so you have to buy a new one.

IMHO a spare wheel is an absolute necessity, especially if like me you go to very remote areas on holiday.

Exactly the same as the repair kit in my MX-5. That's why I carry Holts Tyreweld in that car now as it is water based and the tyre can be repaired after using it.

Still no substitute for a spare tyre though...

I have a space saver spare wheel and jack in my old BMW will see if spare wheel in will fit I'll look st nut hole ratio. Jack my not fit under car though. Scrapping Bmw eventually so will keep that if it does fit.
