New twin headlights, got use to them yet?

Featured Replies

I personally prefer the Mk3 pre-fl look to the split headlights but my wife prefers the facelift version. I do think the pre-fl looks bland on a lower spec (i.e. Without front fogs) but otherwise looks good - smart but understated unlike BMWs, MBs, etc. The vrs looks amazing in my opinion. But as I said the split headlights do nothing for me - the vrs looks better than non-vrs but that should be the case!

As for putting Superb lights onto Octavias, I'm guessing that the smarter look (IMHO) of the Superb is partly what puts it in a higher class than the Octy? Other than performance and spec etc but I think it looks really sharp next to both pre- and post-fl Octavia. So I can't see them putting those lights on an Octavia anytime soon.

  • I really do not approve of the FL front-end. The angles of the lights are all wrong and the wedge of plastic bumper in-between is plain nasty. Both light-clusters look too small/puny.

  • 2017 FL Octavia VRS by T00mm, on Flickr   I don't see the issue to be honest

  • Got to say when the FL octy was first show to the world I hate the new front but then they showed the vRS and the new front looked a lot better but going to see one at the dealership it's not bad at a

I think the aim with the split lights is to make the Octavia appear wider and different from the cheaper Rapide.

I must admit when the O3 and Rapide were first on the road together I struggled to tell the difference.

I guess if they gave the Octavia the same lights as the Superb then they would have a similar problem to address with the Superb (as you suggest)!

Good point! With the current lineup with the new Rapid, all three of them are easily told apart which, for me, is a plus. We have on our parking lot in the office a pre-FL Octavia and the previous-gen Rapid and I never know which one is which.

What are the LED headlights  like at night, better or worse than the pre FL

But has anybody used them in anger yet ? I'm thinking about the replacement for my current vrs now and as I drive many miles in the dark during winter months it's a major factor

Perhaps FL Superb owners are feeling jealous and thinking - why couldn't we have had twin headlights loo? Maybe next time....

I doubt it as there isn’t a F/L MK3 Superb...

If they are half as good as the Kodiaq LED headlights then you will not be disappointed by their performance, just their looks :D

I have the new LED lights, and I have to say that I am very pleasantly surprised. The light is amazing, better than everything else I have tried and I'm very glad I chose the LED lights instead of the halogen lights. I do not know how the xenon lights worked on mk3 but can only give the new FL LED lights the warmest recommendation.

Really? A complete change of car type just because of the headlights?

You must be seriously offended by the new look!

Too right I am, I've seen one in the station car park which was part of a hire car fleet and even the hire car reps have said that they prefer the old look to the new.

The old look is more menacing on the RS than the new one and the new one just doesn't look right at all that split in the headlights is just wrong on so many levels for me, it's just plain horrible now.

I can't afford a Kodiaq to the specifications I'd like (it'd be around £39k), also I don't need 7 seats, nor do I want a diesel. So a Karoq is the only way to go, unless they bring out a Golf sized car or Octy Mk4 in the next 12-14 months.

Fair enough!

How about a Superb 220 TSI or even a two-year old 280 4x4 TSI. I was very tempted with the 280 before I ended up with a '14 220 vRS.

The Superb is a good looking car I'd say, with lovely-looking front lights, so long as it's not too large for you?

Unfortunately the Superb is a tad to big, I think I might be hedging my bets by thinking of the Karoq, which hopefully have some decent petrol engines + DSG & 4x4, hopefully a "Sportline" or RS version would be nice.

The twin headlight setup has basically killed it for me I'm afraid. No more Octys until such time as they banish those wretched things, they're the work of the devil.

Love my 230. Love the lights. HTH.

I'd love to have the 245, but not with those headlights I'm afraid. And if necessary and push comes to shove then I'll look at having a Jaguar, VW or BMW.

Take a drive of my 245 when it arrives Wanderer & best of all

You can't see the headlights from the drivers seat

I've had my new F/L octy vRS a month now and the lights are not that bad they grow on you I like them now and they look good on the vRS at first yes I didn't like them at all but a lot of that was down to the first time see them was on a brown octavia and I hate brown car

I think the headlights will always be marmite. Also, I think it depends on circumstances in which you bought the car. Mine is a leased car for work, so it's not my first choice, and ultimately I will be getting rid in 3 years and get to choose something new.

However, if it was my own cash I'd have bought a pre face lift for looks alone.

As for lights in darkness, they work great in my opinion. However, I'll caveat that. I'm coming from a '99 car, which did have hid's as standard though so they weren't too bad.
