New twin headlights, got use to them yet?

Featured Replies

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on the twin headlight arrangement, now we have had 6 months or so to get used to it?

Most people don't like change, l can remember when l saw the first pictures of the Fabia III . Didn't like it at all, but now my opinion has changed. It's the same for the Octavia facelift l now quite like it.

I like it it's ok.

Would actually put me off if I was in the market for a new car. I'm hoping that when that time comes I'll go for a Superb or something else, due to a growing family. Looks best in black but I can't live with keeping a black car clean, it would kill me. Or my wife would for the time I would spend trying :D

If something happened to my current car and I had no choice I guess I could just about live with it. Great chance to get DCC too, I really think that would give the car a split personality, softer when cruising, and tighter when driving normally

I have bought the new version with LED twin headlights, and I love The looks of it,  it's more sporty and fresh in my eyes.

im not a big fan but everyone's different. I always liked  my Mk1 then the mk2 came along and  was a lash up but preferred the mK2 fl. You can obtain this look on the MK3 non FL with a couple of pieces of coloured coded  tape.

The thing about the debatable aesthetics is that I would be willing to completely overlook them, and indeed learn to love the new look, if there was evidence to suggest improved lighting performance. Has anyone done enough driving in the dark to make a realistic comparison with pre FL Octavia 3 halogen or xenon? Bearing in mind that the pre FL halogen headlamps on the Octavia 3 were a cost cutting backward step (Reflector in place of projector on the Octavia 2).

I must say I hated them at first and was really bummed as I didn't order 3 on time and 3FL happened to be the only option. I hesitated for quite some time. After seeing it live and after few months has passed since they appeared I grew really fond of them. Seeing both 3 and 3FL on the streets I now feel the old lights are plain dull and new one look really sharp and I am now really happy I waited.

I dislike the middle stripe on the grill though, and I have always liked only the black pack version on both 3 and 3FL, considering the chrome grill frame uninspiring and irritating at least.

Got to say when the FL octy was first show to the world I hate the new front but then they showed the vRS and the new front looked a lot better but going to see one at the dealership it's not bad at all and in some colours it looks good.

the FL vRS looks great it works some how and the scout looks good too.

but for me the day I picked up my new FL vRS was when the new front worked it looked sunning

For me looks better in the flesh than in pictures. I started off last year with disbelief when seeing the first pics but now think it's a fresh look that makes the pre FL look a bit boring.

Yep, I'm inclined to agree. Having seen a few on the road and at the dealers it's better to view in real life.

When I first saw the split headlights I didn't like them at all but now I actually prefer them, they look quite aggressive and i think they suit the car ... I must admit though I prefer them with the black grille surround, but that's just my personal opinion.

Saw a lovely race blue one today with chrome surround and actually liked that as well. :speechless:

If something happened to my current car I would probably go back to a Fabia 1.4tdi estate, after driving one for a few months prior to getting my octavia I quite liked it, also felt a little quicker than my octavia even though it was only the 90ps version. Don't get me wrong, I love my octavia but just can not take to the twin headlights, if it was not for them then it would be an octavia all day,, put 8000 on the clock now and it's been perfect, even the oil and water level have stayed on there max marks. Just fitted a tow bar so all being well and provided my glaucoma does not get worse (5 year medical licence) will have car for quite a few years.

Its growing on me...  still not a fan of it...  but new car will be black magic pearl which will hide it a bit...

I am trying to think of other mainstream manufacturers who have completely split the main headlights on their cars. Here's the only recent one I can think of.

They can look okay on more classic cars where clusters are of equal size.

The new headlights have hugely grown on me.

I was horrified when I first saw them.

Two things have changed that:

Seeing an FL next to a pre-FL, the FL does look more aggressive. So, good for vRS folk.

Secondly, darker colours & black pack dark grill surrounds hugely reduce the impact of the 4 lights.

IMHO, lighter colours & chrome grills do not work with the new look.

I read somewhere that the more you look at something you like (girlfriend, car ....) the better it looks!

Certainly worked for my Mk II FL, which I bought new. I wasn't initially too pleased that I'd chosen FL time to buy, but quickly got used to / even liked the new look. I suspect the Mk III FL will be the same.

And that Merc's ugly too.

I just can't see myself having another Octavia of any type until they stop doing the stupid split headlights, I'm now going to be considering at Karoq instead.

Really? A complete change of car type just because of the headlights?

You must be seriously offended by the new look!

Asphetics are important when spending a lot of money on a new car. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but equally so is ugliness. There can also be small margins between buying one car or another. Many people stopped buying Impreza's simply because of the "bugeye's" headlights.

Asphetics???

Only in East London surely :)

No, I never will and have no reason to.

Still, quite a lot of FL Octavia on the roads, but we are all different and people have right to choose.

I wonder how would Octavia looked like with new Superb lights...

Better I would think, but I an still genuinely puzzled by the much greater interest in aesthetics than performance.

The other thing I have not researched but would be interested in if anyone has is: What are the costs and practicalities of led / led headlamp replacement?

I wasnt impressed at first but I have a 2017 Racing blue 1.4SE DSG and what I see is the lights built into the shape of the grill. It does grow on you. BTW the 1.4 is very fast

Someone passes me every day going to work in a FL MK3

The headlights look worse in real life, the 'awful design' is accentuated by the DRL strips.

Its a shame......
