Air con woes.

Featured Replies

ok i am going to buy some ramps now so i can get underneath the car and check the wiring for any breakages,

i have another question, as i now have 2 codes showing, 382 and 333, will these codes go away on their own?  so example if i find a broken wire and fix it would the aircon then run or would i need to find some where with a code clearer to make it work?   and i really dont know why the 333 code is showing as faulty only now , all i did was remove the wire and put it back on

anyone know ?

I just like to say thanks very much to all who posted here ,

i brought a jack and axle stands as no ramps left in Halfords... so spent money on good tools I can use again,

i then looked under the car took off the engine bay cover and found the wires , they were not even connected and completely broken!  I have no idea how this could of happened but thanks to pictures here I knew they were for the Ac , I would not have had a clue otherwise !!! So I used speaker wire and cut them and made new connections

I then switched the car on and amazingly my aircon is ice cold!!!! Although my fault codes are still showing ??? Maybe in time they will disappear but as long as all working I'm happy thanks to all here who helped me

Fault codes will probably go away on their own after a few starts.

thanks very much for your help,,your pictures saved me a expensive visit to the garage!   and that money was much better spent on buying the jack and axel stands that i will have for years to come,,

cheers

Superb bit of research/diagnosis. It might also be very helpful to spend an additional £20 on a Haynes manual... I have always considered them to be essential... Should be provided with every car! I always get one for my car or motorcycle, as soon as they are available. The Fabia mk2 one is book number 6033.

Sensor, not switch, I believe. Between coolant reservoir and headlight on a mk1. Probably similar on a mk2.

Yes, I might have worked that out if I had thought about it, ie VCDS can read the system pressure (I seem to remember) so that is the only device connected directly into the gas line, which makes it a pressure transducer!

I have just sold back the late 2009 Ibiza to my daughter who has just returned from working in KL, now I've had to replace that sensor as my daughter has used the air con on a very hot day - and it is now not able to cool the air down enough, accompanied by a hissing noise coming from the air system! Funny how I never spotted the slightly oil and dirty covering on the fridge pipe beside this sensor!  VW Group must be selling a serious number of these across is marques as they seem to have two modes of failure, either transducer goes faulty, or the assembly starts to leak through its body! £48.88 for the latest version and a new O-ring seal, just got to load some R134A into that system to complete that repair.
