False floor for spare wheel

Featured Replies

I can get my hands on a genuine spare wheel 195/60-16 has anyone made there own false floor to accommodate a spare wheel.

would welcome any ideas.

I'd simply be looking to make a square frame around the tyre with maybe one or two radial side lengths to make up compartments using something like a Scaffold Board 38 x 225mm x 3000 mm (the 225mm running the tyre 195mm depth). With maybe a 5mm plywood top (doesn't need be very thick as there's very little unsupported span underneath) which you could stick on carpet or rubber.

this is what the OEM kit looks like

currently for sale in Durham for £100 at gumtree

There is a guide in the Yeti guide section:

Don't like mine as half the boot space taken up

Spend in the region of £20K on a car then go to the trouble making something that already exists. ??

I hear what you are saying RickT but thought I would only carry spare while on holiday, or long runs so maybe not worth investing in genuine article especially when I can get the wheel for virtually nothing.

i believe the 2WD kit is different from 4x4 kit. I think the kit for sale in Durham is a good buy at £100 but wrong kit for my car.
