Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI Automatic - Stalling.

Featured Replies

I own a Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI L&K PD 2007 which has only has about 30,000 miles on the clock.

It is an Automatic but recently it has started stalling whilst idling at junctions or when reversing.

Whilst idling the revs are quite stable then, periodically at about 8 sec intervals the revs drop and then pick up again. At the lowest rev point the car almost or does actually stall. Most of the time though it almost stalls but then recovers.

It may not be related, but I have noticed that when I do engage the turbo there is a distinctive puff of smoke (black I think).

I took it to my Skoda Dealer in Epsom but apart from making me substantially poorer and wasting several visits, nothing changed.

I have tried using Wynn's Diesel Clean & Injector Cleaner in a tank that was used for a long motorway run but it doesnt seem to have made any difference.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to the cause and/or how I might find a more competent Skoda expert to take a look?

Thanks in advance.

@WhatHeSaid - I've no direct experience of this engine + transmission, but the title made me think of the idle speed being set low, and your narrative of a faulty idle speed stabiliser. I don't know how to prove either of those though, but I'd expect any competent mechanic to have similar thoughts.
