EGR Maintenance/ Clean

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

I had a look around the forum but i couldn't find any topics regarding the maintenance of the EGR....if that's even possible.

I know sooner or later the damn thing will go as it gets clogged up with soot.

Anyone any tips on how to maintain or clean that devil's piece of engineering???

I know it's hidden at the back of the engine so it can make our lives miserable.

And i know what some of you will say, "remove it, remap it etc". But i want to stay compliant/road legal, plus then the DPF gets clogged if I do it an so on.... Please stay relevant to my main question.

Any tips anyone?

Thanks

Low ash content oil and regular service and I throw in a dpf cleaner every third or so refill, car is remapped and egg was replaced by dealer before remapping no problems since

Drive hard now and again to clean it a bit, too. Had mine replaced once but the fault persisted after a few more miles. Turned out to be something else and my removed item was easy to clean. If you know how to remove, clean it prior to replacing as that will save £80 or more if it works. They are a common make too so VW/Skoda add a huge lump on top of the price the same manufacturer supplies the part for via ECP or CP4L. Cant remember the brand but it starts with a "P". Just for adding their logo to the casing! Pierburg, thats it!

VW AG

also add another 12 months warranty on top of what ECP offer.

Euro car parts offer lifetime warranty on the EGR valves for virtually the same price if anyone is interested.

i think the problem with EGRs is more the fitting costs rather then the part it self. Such a pain to get too.

Use good quality fuel.

I always used BP fuels and for the past 4 fillups it's been Shell VPower Nitro etc etc Diesel

It is indeed, I've done quite a few now, I favour the delete kits myself but that's not everyone's cup of tea.

Then you mod the DPF?

DPF has a more difficult life with an EGR valve than without.

No DPF stays the same.

as said, DPF is worse with the EGR.

James,

What do you consider to be good quality diesel please?

Thanks,

Thanks James.

I had my DPF sensor blow out about 15,000 miles ago, since then I have only used branded fuel like shell, texaco, bp etc. Also I give it a good thrashing every now and again! Had the DPF light pop on once due to short town journeys all weekend and the car copped a strop so I did a hard motorway drive and cough cough light went out!
