Hi, does anyone know where the gps antenna of Amundsen is located.  especially in the latest facelifted version.

when i use my smartphones navigation app, after a few minutes it gives me headache so i really wonder if amundsen's antenna is inside the cabin or outside the cabin.

According to this information i will order amundsen option with my new car or not.

Mounted on the roof as far as I know. That's what the small shark fin aerial is on the roof. 

As above, the GPS antenna is on the roof, the radio ariel is in the back screen ( hatch ) and in the rear side windows on the estate. 

Given that a GPS system in a your phone or your car is a passive system, i.e., reception of a signal only, I fail to see how either could possibly give you a headache. Unless you have voice directions turned on and are wearing headphones at maximum volume...

 

The only transmission that could possibly give you a headache is the one from your phone transmitting to various cell sites as you move around.

Your phone will not use Amundsen GPS/GSM antenna if you don't  upgrade telephony. Škoda (and other manufacturers) charge this option really a lot. It is called comfort or professional telephony, and is a really nice gadget. Actually Amundsen (or Columubus) have capacity to connect directly to your SIM card so HU of the car takes over complete telephony and Data. No radiation or connection issues from a phone inside the cabin, as everything transmits through antenna.

No, it is not passive like a rfid tag.  It uses energy and creates a field to get the gps signal.  It causes a serious headache for me after several minutes.  Same with every smartphone or navigation device for me. Also when i  surf the internet via smartphone with 3g/4g  or when talking to somebody with my samrtphones,  same headache after short time. Maybe i am more sensitive i don't know, but gps receiver in the smartphones is not completely passive.

Yes it is. Apart from consuming a small amount of power to run the chipset, it does not transmit, only receive. Your phone however, will connect via 3/4g to use location data to assist the GPS chipset for faster operation, this is the same as any data use or making phone calls. I would suggest this RF transmission is what you are sensitive to.

 

A standard Amundsen unit will rely solely on fix data from the GPS satellites and its internal programming so will not generate any RF transmissions apart from normal electronic EMI. So should be good for you as long as you leave the phone at home...

I checked my smartphone and saw that "improve location accuracy" is on. i think this is what you mention. it says it uses wifi even when wifi is off.   now i turned it off and try it sometime.  thanks

edit--  not only wifi,  it says it also uses mobile network to assist gps.  now i set it to only use gps antenna,  i think my gps headache problem while driving will be solved.  many thanks.
